Their testimonies have shaped public understanding and even aided law enforcement efforts. One of the most notable figures among them is Johnny Alite, who was deeply entrenched in mob activity during the 1990s in Philadelphia. Having since turned his life around, Alite now shares his experiences publicly and also appears in Netflix’s ‘Mob War: Philadelphia vs. The Mafia.’
Johnny Alite’s Association With the mob Started in Queens
John “Johnny” Edward Alite was born on September 30, 1962, and raised in Woodhaven, Queens, New York City. Coming from a working-class family, as his father was a taxi driver and his mother a secretary, his path soon took a very different turn. Growing up in the same neighborhood as John A. Gotti, the son of notorious mob boss John Gotti, Alite formed a friendship that would greatly shape his future. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Tampa on a baseball scholarship but left after three years following an arm injury that ended his athletic pursuits. He eventually returned to Queens and briefly enrolled at Queens College.
Johnny began selling drugs on a small scale before becoming connected with the Gambino crime family. He eventually worked as an enforcer for the organization led by John A. Gotti, with whom he also went into business. By 1990, he had reportedly been promoted to caporegime and became involved in various violent enterprises, including murder conspiracies. In the mid-1990s, Johnny expanded his operations to Philadelphia, where he became entangled in the city’s turbulent mob wars. He later described that period as one marked by excess, violence, and internal conflict that gripped the city in fear. Amid the chaos, he took control of the valet parking businesses along Delaware Avenue, as well as in South Jersey and Atlantic City, and even purchased properties in Cherry Hill and Voorhees Township.
Johnny Alite Decided to Cooperate With Authorities After His Extradition from Brazil
The valet business Johnny Alite controlled served as a front for money laundering, and he also extorted rival valet operations to expand his influence. Eventually, he moved his activities to Tampa, Florida, where he reported to Gambino capo Ronald “Ronnie One-Arm” Trucchio. In 1995, Johnny was arrested for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to murder John A. Gotti. Later that same year, he was apprehended again for illegal firearm possession and served three years in prison. When federal racketeering charges began surfacing in 2004, Johnny suspected he would be next, prompting him to flee to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in January 2004. However, he was captured by authorities in November of that year and spent two years in a Brazilian prison before being extradited to the US.
Johnny was extradited to Tampa, Florida, in 2006 to face a long list of federal charges. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to two murders, four murder conspiracies, at least eight shootings, two attempted shootings, armed home invasions, and multiple armed robberies committed across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. As part of his plea deal, Johnny agreed to cooperate with authorities and testify in the trial of Gambino family enforcer Charles Carneglia. He later served as a witness in the racketeering trial of John A. Gotti. Although that trial did not result in a conviction, prosecutors regarded Johnny’s testimony as highly valuable and noted that his cooperation provided crucial insight into Gambino operations and ultimately contributed to a reduction in his own sentence.
In April 2011, Johnny was sentenced to 10 years in prison but was released in January 2012 under a five-year supervised release program. In October 2015, he was arrested again for violating the terms of his parole and spent three months back in prison. Since his release, however, Johnny has completely turned his life around. He now lives a lifestyle that is worlds apart from his past in organized crime, focusing instead on sharing his story and experiences as a reformed man.
Johnny Alite is Using His Voice for the Greater Good Today
Johnny Alite has reinvented himself as a motivational speaker, using his turbulent past to inspire others to make better choices. He co-wrote four books: ‘Gotti’s Rules’, ‘Darkest Hour’, ‘Prison Rules’, and ‘Mafia International ’, where he reflects on his life in organized crime and the lessons learned from it. He has also appeared in several documentary series, including ‘The Mafia with Trevor McDonald’ and ‘Fear City: New York vs The Mafia’. In March 2020, he launched his own podcast, ‘Mafia Truths with John Alite,’ and created a platform to discuss redemption and the realities of the mob world. Beyond media, Johnny is now a youth and policy advocate, speaking at schools and community events to deter young people from crime and promote second chances through education and self-awareness.
Johnny took on a new challenge in public service and has been associated with the Republican Party for several years. In March 2025, he was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Englishtown, New Jersey, borough council, where he continues to serve. Alite has been vocal about his conservative values. He lamented the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has criticized New York Assembly member Zohran Mamdani, and remains a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump. Alongside his political role, he continues to give interviews and speak openly about his past, using various media outlets and his own digital platforms to share lessons from his transformation and views on contemporary issues.
Johnny has built a strong online presence, amassing over 513,000 followers on Instagram alone, while also maintaining active profiles on YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms. Beyond his digital ventures, he has developed his own merchandise line, featuring items like T-shirts and baseball caps available through Storm Club Wear. Expanding his reach into entertainment, he has also taken on acting roles. He appeared in the TV movie ‘Sick Minded’ and has several upcoming projects in the works, including ‘Pony,’ ‘Fight Valley 2: Lockdown,’ ‘Ahead,’ and ‘4 Guys and a Bag.’

Family has always been at the heart of Johnny Alite’s life, and it has grounded him even through his most turbulent years. He was first married to Carol before finding love again with his second wife, Claudia DiPippa. Between his two marriages, he has five children who remain the center of his world.
