Reuben Dodd Had a Great Time Working on the Sets of I Still Believe
The creators of ‘I Still Believe’ were committed to portraying Joshua “Josh” Camp’s character with authenticity. They specifically sought a young actor with Down Syndrome who could truly capture his warmth and spirit. This search led them to Reuben Dodd, a talented child actor from Santa Monica, California. Discovered at age 10 by the Zuri Agency’s Adaptive Division, Reuben had been diagnosed with CHARGE Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder that affects multiple systems, including hearing, vision, and balance. Despite his challenges, by the time the team of this film came to learn about him, he had already built an impressive resume, appearing in the TV series ‘Teachers,’ a few short films, and a 2016 Democratic Party PSA.
Reuben shared that it was his agency that encouraged him to audition for the role of Josh. With the support of his parents and brother, he practiced diligently at home, memorizing his lines before completing two rounds of auditions. The first was with the casting director, and the second was with the film’s producers and writers. Reuben recalled having a lot of fun, even asking the team if there was anything he could improve. Something about these auditions and the potential of being cast in this film stayed with him afterward. While on vacation with his family, his agent called with the exciting news that he had booked the role. Overjoyed, Reuben quickly made a video and shared it on social media to celebrate with his friends and followers.
Reuben had a wonderful experience on the sets of ‘I Still Believe.’ He was reportedly easy to work with and quickly formed bonds with his co-stars, including KJ Apa, Shania Twain, Gary Sinise, and Britt Robertson. He fondly recalled how kind and welcoming they were and how they treated him like family. After filming wrapped, the filmmakers even surprised Reuben with an honorary Oscar in recognition of his dedication and performance, with the entire crew cheering him on. He later shared that he never got a chance to meet Josh, but he did meet Jeremy Camp on the day of the movie’s premiere. The entire experience boosted his confidence and affirmed his passion for acting. Inspired by his time on set, Reuben continues to pursue a career in the film industry.

Now living in Los Angeles, California, Reuben Dodd continues to work as a professional actor and is set to graduate from Loyola Marymount University in 2029. Widely praised for his moving portrayal of Josh Camp in ‘I Still Believe,’ he impressed audiences and critics alike with his emotional depth and authenticity. In 2021, he won the Indie Fest Award for Best Young Actor for his lead role in ‘The Bridge.’ A multi-talented artist, he has studied musical theatre, modeled for Target on the first Runway of Dreams, and takes an active interest in skiing, soccer, swimming, and snorkeling.
Despite having undergone 21 surgeries, including two open-heart procedures, and using a cochlear implant for hearing, Reuben leads a vibrant, fulfilling life. He embraces everyday experiences, shares his joy for performance, and stands as a proud advocate for disability representation in media. Josh Camp is Dearly Loved and Supported by His Family
Josh Camp has always preferred a life away from the limelight, and that continues to be true even today. Known to many only as the youngest brother of Christian singer-songwriter Jeremy Camp, he was diagnosed with Down Syndrome as a child. Jeremy has often spoken about Josh in interviews and shared how much he has learned from his brother’s resilience and joy. In one candid moment, Jeremy recalled a heartfelt conversation with their father, Tom Camp, about how he processed the diagnosis. Tom told him that while having a person with special needs in one’s life may not be the life they imagined, it’s a life filled with unexpected beauty, purpose, and gratitude.
In a 2024 concert, Jeremy connected with a fan living with Down Syndrome and spoke movingly about his experiences growing up with Josh. He spoke about how he has always tried to be there for him, to help and support him in any way possible. Today, Josh lives in Lafayette, Indiana, with his parents, Tom and Teri Camp. Tom is the Senior Pastor at Harvest Chapel, and both he and Teri continue to be Josh’s primary caregivers. Though Josh keeps a low profile, he remains close to his brothers, Jeremy and Jared, and he is also deeply loved by his nieces, nephews, and extended family.
