Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez Murders: Where is Cynthia Randolph Now?

In the episode titled ‘A Mother’s Manipulation’ of Investigation Discovery’s ‘Killer Confessions: Case Files of a Texas Ranger,’ the primary focus is on the tragic deaths of two children, Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez, in Weatherford, Texas, in the spring of 2017. What appeared to be an unfortunate accident turned out to be an act of frustration and carelessness. The detectives delved deep into the case and spent hours in the interrogation room before making the perpetrator confess to the crimes. The documentary also features exclusive and insightful interviews with the two children’s loved ones and the officials linked to the investigation.

Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez Were Left Inside the Car For Too Long

Sometime in the 2010s, Cynthia Marie Randolph and Richard Ramirez met through a mutual friend, sparking a romantic connection. Not long after, they exchanged vows and made their relationship official in the eyes of the law. In 2015, they welcomed Juliet into their world, followed by Cavanaugh on January 20, 2016. From the outside, the family of four appeared to be leading a picture-perfect life in the 200 block of Rambling Loop in Weatherford, Texas. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the Ramirez family on the fateful day of May 26, 2017.

Shortly after 4 pm that day, the police received a distressed call from Cynthia, who claimed that she had found her children, 2-year-old Juliet Ramirez and 16-month-old Cavanaugh Ramirez, dead inside her car. When the authorities arrived at the scene, they noticed that the car’s glass was shattered. Upon performing the autopsy, they concluded that the two children had died of excessive overheating or exogenous hyperthermia. Since the manner of their deaths was determined to be homicide, they launched an investigation to get to the bottom of the truth.

Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez’s Killer Claimed That the Deaths Were Accidental

Initially, Cynthia Marie Randolph told the detectives that while she was busy doing household chores, like cleaning and laundry, the kids were playing inside the house. As per her account, she lost track of them at some point and went searching for them in and around the house. She claimed that, after locating them inside the car and being unable to unlock it, she broke the window and took them out. As the authorities were on their way, she allegedly performed CPR. According to her, Juliet had taken the key, opened the car door, and gotten inside with Cavanaugh before locking them both in.

Finding it bizarre and unlikely that a toddler could unlock the car, the investigators dug deeper into the case. On June 8, 2017, Cynthia was interrogated once again. Instead of talking about her late children, she went on a different tangent and talked about her ex-partners and how she and Richard had cheated on each other. Later on in the interview, she changed her story and said that she got home with her children, took a hit of marijuana, and fell asleep. Cynthia added that she found her kids dead after waking up. By the end, she agreed to take a polygraph test, which was scheduled a few days later.

Before the test, she was interviewed a couple of times, during which she discussed her dream of joining the military and how the tragedy had opened new opportunities for her. On June 23, 2017, Cynthia failed the polygraph test and later admitted to locking the kids in the car intentionally to teach them a lesson when they refused to get out. After heading inside the house alone, she smoked some weed and fell asleep for 2-3 hours. When she got up, she found the kids dead and broke the window of the car to make it seem like an accident. Thus, she was arrested and charged with two counts of injury to a child, causing serious bodily injury or death.

Cynthia Randolph is Currently Incarcerated at a Texas Prison Facility

Less than a year later, Cynthia Randolph’s trial for the murder of her two children, Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez, got underway around April 2018. During the trial, the prosecution presented the jury with video-recorded interviews of the defendant, which showcased her inconsistent and changing stories about the fateful day. The Assistant District Attorney stated, “The deaths of these children and the culpability of their mother in causing that dictated that she be sentenced to prison. Their lives were taken from them before they even had a chance to start.”

Ultimately, on April 30, 2018, Cynthia was found guilty of two counts of reckless injury to a child in connection with the deaths of her two children. That same day, she was sentenced to two 20-year prison terms to be served simultaneously. As of today, 33-year-old Cynthia Marie Randolph is serving her sentence at the Gregory S. Coleman Unit in Lockhart, Texas, with her parole eligibility date scheduled for August 2019.
