Season 4 of ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ leaves a trail of bodies in its wake owing to numerous conflicts raging from all angles. However, episode 9 brings yet another shocking twist into the mix as Krystal, Kanan’s girlfriend, is left in a perilous situation after getting caught in the heavy crossfire of South Jamaica’s underworld. After already losing Famous and O-Cee, Kanan is pushed to his limits as his loved ones become the casualty of unintended consequences. However, one of the most meaningful people in his life throughout that period is Krystal, who offers endless emotional and mental counsel whenever he needs it. While it is evident that they have a strong relationship throughout the season, the events of the ninth episode only serve as a reminder of the brutal nature of the series and how every character is moments away from danger. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Krystal is Killed as Part of Snaps and Pop’s Larger Conspiracy
In episode 9, Krystal wakes up in a dark room shackled to the bed. She is being held captive by Snaps and Pop for the express purpose of gathering information on Kanan. Because the married duo are the ones who ordered the killing of Famous using dirty cops, they are afraid that Kanan might figure out the truth, tarnishing business relations while also making them the target of a revenge plot. To that end, they use Krystal as a way to learn more about the titular character and who he suspects may have killed Famous. However, upon questioning Krystal, Pop realizes that Kanan is far from blaming them for Famous’ murder and instead thinks that Raq might have something to do with it. Once the information is gathered, she shoots Krystal through the back of her head.
While Krystal’s death arrives as a startling shock, the character’s ominous fate is already set in motion at the end of episode 8 when Kanan tells her to leave the town before an all-out war begins in the city. At first, she is reluctant to leave Kanan’s side. However, after realizing that he has his mind made up, she is left with no choice but to obey. Still, before she leaves, she visits Raq to tell her more about Kanan’s growingly uncertain and unpredictable actions, which might lead him down a dark path. She urges Raq to step up as a mother, take responsibility for her actions, and fight to protect Kanan. Moments later, she is picked up by Pickett and Wiley, two cops on Snaps and Pop’s payroll, for an interrogation on Famous. However, it is simply a ruse to extract information from her and kill her, which is a tragic fate for anyone.
Aliyah Turner Might Be Leaving Raising Kanan Due to Krystal’s Murder
Over the course of the series, Krystal has gone through a variety of storylines and character arcs that show her in a different light at different parts of the story. While the character is quite malleable in that respect, her charming presence is brought to life by Aliyah Turner, who turns in a stellar performance as Krystal. However, her character’s cold-blooded murder in episode 9 is likely the end of her relationship with ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan.’ Speaking about her experiences during filming, the actress said on social media, “This show truly has the most incredible crew. Every detail—from costumes and hair to makeup, set design, and so much more—is so intentionally crafted. It takes a dedicated village to bring a production like this to life, and I’m beyond grateful to be part of it.”
Although the Starz series is known for significant plot twists and bringing seemingly dead people back to life, there is always the possibility of any character returning, including Krystal. However, the only caveat to that argument is the fact that we are shown Krystal’s death in an irrefutable manner. To that end, her only avenue for an unlikely comeback is appearing in flashback scenes throughout the show. It could provide more moments between Kanan and Krystal for the fans to latch onto. Still, even the flashback route seems speculative at best. Thus, for the most part, we can assume that Krystal is done with the series, and her death may likely spark a brutal change in Kanan, unlike anything we have ever seen, and set him down the path of destruction he is known for.
