Who is Kat McAllister? Who Plays Her in MobLand?

Paramount+’s ‘MobLand’ follows Harry Da Souza’s quest to fix the never-ending string of problems for the Harrigan family. As he tries to save them, sometimes from themselves, he often finds himself in some very precarious positions for which he needs powerful connections to save the day. In the seventh episode of the show, Brendan and Seraphina Harrigan are at the brink of death when Harry calls on a favor to save their lives. It is too late for Brendan, but it is enough for Seraphina to survive, and the impossible task of bringing her back from the jaws of death is accomplished by Kat McAllister, the mysterious character who has been trying to reach out to Harry for a while now. The more we know about her, the more mysterious she gets, and more questions emerge about her identity.

Kat McAllister is More Powerful Than the Harrigans and the Stevensons

While the Harrigans and the Stevensons rule the drug and gun business in London, they are clearly limited to their region and don’t venture out much. Or at least, they haven’t yet. Though the war between them causes a lot of bloodshed, it is not exactly as big a problem for others operating their criminal empires outside of London. The presence of Kat McAllister hints at that bigger world, and she seems to be quite a big fish in those waters. In fact, she is so well-known in the criminal world that even Conrad Harrigan has to wonder how Harry knows her and why the fixer would associate with her. He treats the arrangement between her and Harry as a deal with the devil, though he doesn’t mind getting something out of it.

While not much is revealed about her true nature, it is clear that Kat is influential enough to make Jaime Lopez completely disregard his deal with Richie Stevenson and his hatred for Conrad Harrigan. He drops the plan to kill Seraphina the moment Kat tells him not to go forward with it. He doesn’t care how this will affect his relationship with Richie, which shows how little he cares for him and his rivals. This act is enough to show that Kat is much more powerful than any crime family we have met so far. Her surroundings also hint that she is pretty wealthy, and the fact that she has people like Donnie to get in touch with people like Harry shows that she tries to maintain a distance that makes her even more mysterious and elusive. She is not on someone’s beck and call, and there are channels one has to go through to reach her.

Another notable thing is that she and Harry are already on familiar enough terms for them to be on a first-name basis. Harry tells Conrad that she tried to poach him years back, but she doesn’t reveal that she has been trying to reach him in the recent past. This shows that the true nature of their familiarity has not been revealed yet. This also brings Harry’s own past into question, and it seems that he may have been associated with Kat in the past for her to do favors for him, just so she can trap him by the simple fact that he owes her.

Her accent suggests that she may be from the other side of the pond, which means she is the head of a much greater crime family with deeper connections and stronger international ties. Or, she could be from some three-lettered government agency, involved in the stuff that puts her in a position where she has ties to organized crime. So far, ‘MobLand’ has kept her real position a secret, but as she takes more space in the coming episode, a clearer picture of her past connection to Harry and her intention for him will emerge.

Kat McAllister is Brought to Life by the Formidable Janet McTeer

Kat McAllister has not been around for long, but already she has proved herself to be more influential and intimidating than all the characters in the show. Portraying such a character requires an actor of great calibre, which is why the creators of ‘MobLand’ turned towards Janet McTeer. The Tony and Olivier Award-winning actress is known for her roles in shows like Netflix’s ‘KAOS’ and ‘Ozark,’ and movies like ‘The Menu,’ ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning,’ ‘Me Before You,’ and the ‘Divergent’ series.

The Academy Award and Emmy-nominated actress is also slated to play Professor Minerva McGonagall in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of ‘Harry Potter.’ With the formidable characters that she has portrayed in the past and continues to take on in her future projects, it is clear that McTeer was a perfect choice to bring the daunting Kat McAllister to life.
