Kate Ober: Where is AJ Armstrong’s Ex-Wife Now?

In the episode titled ‘Cold Blooded Killer or Bereaved Teen?’ of A&E’s ‘Accused: Guilty or Innocent?,’ the focus is on Antonio “AJ” Armstrong Jr., who was accused of killing his parents in July 2016. Despite him claiming that someone else was responsible for the murders, the authorities allegedly refused to consider other suspects from the get-go. Throughout the three intense trials of the accused, he was constantly supported by Kate Ober, his high school sweetheart-turned-wife.

Kate Ober Supported AJ Armstrong Throughout His Three Trials

Kate Ober crossed paths with AJ Armstrong at high school and was in a relationship with him at the time of the murder of his parents — Antonio and Dawn Armstrong — on July 29, 2016. Even after he was arrested under suspicion of double homicide, Kate stayed by her side and believed in his innocence. She even testified for him in his 2019 trial, where she claimed that AJ’s relationship with his parents was really good and that he could not have any possible motive to take their lives. By the time the first trial ended in a mistrial, their relationship had experienced many ups and downs. However, with the birth of their son, Hendrix, the couple got closer once again.

Soon after the second trial also ended in a mistrial, the prosecution pushed for a retrial. This time, AJ Armstrong was found guilty of killing his parents in their southwest Houston house in 2016 and sentenced to life in prison with the chance of parole after four decades. After the conviction, Kate opened up about the situation in an interview with KPRC 2. She said, “I mean, I lost my best friend and my husband and the father of my child in one moment, and I haven’t been able to see him,” she said. “As soon as he was transferred to the state prison, I haven’t been able to talk to him on the phone or have any real contact with him, so that’s been really hard. I’ve been really worried about him. That’s not an easy thing to be put through.”

Kate Ober is Not Only a Doting Mother But Also Has an Active Social Life

Kate Ober was right by AJ Armstrong’s side through the multiple trials he faced over the years. However, things between them reportedly changed within a year of his conviction as she decided to part ways with the father of her son, Hendrix, and filed for divorce in September 2024. She considers her son the apple of her eye and only wants the best for him, which might be part of the reason why she made the difficult decision of separating from AJ.

In early November 2024, the 24-year-old mother celebrated her son’s fourth birthday and shared a loving post about him. She greeted him by saying, “Happy 4th birthday to this funny, handsome, and smart baby of mine! Mommy could not be more proud of you and the little person you are becoming! You are my biggest achievement! I love you more than all the stars in the sky Hendo! Keep being YOU, baby boy!” In the summer of 2024, she and her son traveled to Florida for a few weeks. Besides Hendrix, Kate also spends a lot of time with her friends, with whom she travels and attends various social events. In March 2025, she attended her brother’s engagement with her son and celebrated the event with her loved ones.

Kate Ober is Totally Focused on Furthering Her Career Today

Before graduating from Cinco Ranch High School in May 2019, Kate Ober had gained quite a few years of working experience. For a couple of months in the summer of 2016, she served as a Clerical Office Worker at Forrest Orthodontics in Katy, Texas. The following year, she worked as a Fashion Model at Neal Hamil Agency, where she worked until November 2019. Soon after her graduation, Kate joined Caleb Insurance Group as a receptionist.

As per reports, she also held certain responsibilities as a Marketing team member at the company, which was later renamed to Inszone Insurance Services. After gaining several years of corporate experience, in May 2022, Kate switched to Aristoi Classical Academy in Katy, Texas. There, she started as the Administrative Assistant to the Head of School and moved up the ranks. Currently, she holds a position in the marketing and communications department of the company. As part of her job, Kate regularly posts about job vacancies at the academy, like an opening for a Kindergarten teacher she shared in August 2024.
