Kathy and Michael Elliott: Where Are Benjamin Elliott’s Parents Now?

When Meghan Elliott was found unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds in the early hours of September 29, 2021, her entire family was left devastated. As explored in CBS’ ’48 Hours: The Boy Who Killed His Twin,’ it was her twin brother Benjamin Elliott who dialled 911 and performed CPR on her while also indicating he was the one to stab her. The then-17-year-old claimed from the beginning that he was sleepwalking when it transpired, but the fact that it resulted in her death can’t be changed, nor can their parents’ complex grief.

The Elliotts Were Reportedly a Tight-Knit Group, Full of Care and Support

Sometime in 2003 or 2004, twins Meghan and Benjamin were born to Kathy and Michael Elliott. They were raised in a loving household alongside their elder sister, Elizabeth. From what we can tell, they were all close since they had no real secrets between them, even though the latter reportedly relocated from their base in Texas to Georgia for her studies when she was 8. However, according to the whole family, the twins in particular were like best friends as they complemented one another at every step of the way — they had different personalities, but they were very compatible.

As per Kathy, like many teenagers at one point, her little girl sadly struggled with self-confidence and often even had trouble making friends, so her twin brother was arguably her closest confidant. Meghan loved animals, adored her family, and had a deep appreciation for all her loved ones, which she didn’t shy away from expressing. On the other hand, according to Michael, while Benjamin was always a little more on the quieter side, he also has a beautifully kind soul. In fact, he vehemently asserted that the twins’ affection and care for one another were mutual and undeniable.

Kathy and Michael Elliott Still Remember the Day Their Lives Turned Upside Down

When Benjamin stood trial for murder in connection with Meghan’s tragic death in 2025, both their parents testified in favor of him by backing that he did indeed have a sleepwalking problem. However, they also stated that the early morning hours of September 29, 2021, and its aftermath have been deeply grievous for them because they lost their beautiful 17-year-old daughter. Michael stated he went to sleep at 3 am, only to suddenly be awoken by what he believed to be a stranger’s voice somewhere in the house a short time later. So, worried about his family’s safety, he went to investigate. It was only when Michael came by Meghan’s room that he realized something was terribly wrong because Benjamin was administering CPR on his twin sister with the guidance of a 911 dispatcher.

The strange voice he heard was from the officer, but at that point, his focus was entirely on his daughter since he could see her face was “gray.” That’s when he went to wake up his wife, believing she had more experience with such a crisis situation and first response, but it was already too late. When officials arrived at the scene, they immediately removed the Elliotts from Meghan’s room and took Benjamin into custody. Neither Kathy nor Michael had any idea what was happening, but the latter was at the front door when his son was being escorted out. So, he asked the teen what had transpired, to which he could only say, “It was a dream.” The worst part for Kathy and Michael, though, per their accounts, was that they didn’t know their daughter’s fate or the whole story until hours later.

Kathy and Michael Elliott Prefer to Remain Away From the Limelight

Kathy and Michael struggled as their son was found guilty of killing their daughter because they said they saw his remorse in every little thing he did following the incident. Therefore, during Benjamin’s sentencing hearing, they took to the stands to not only remember what a beautiful soul Meghan was but also seemingly serve as character witnesses for him. So, when he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, it broke their hearts even more because they likely felt as if another child was being taken away from them.

Thus, it goes without saying their grief is complex as well as multifold, but it appears as if they are currently trying to deal with it in private. Today, the Texas-based couple has chosen to lead a quiet life well away from the spotlight, all the while still keeping the memories of Meghan alive in their hearts. On a professional level, we know that while Michael is a stay-at-home dad, Kathy is the Associate Director of Innovation and Compliance at Girl Scouts of San Jacinto. In other words, with a Bachelor’s in Human Services (2018) and a Master’s in Organized Leadership (2020), she holds an executive leadership position at a non-profit she is passionate about.
