Paramount+’s ‘My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story’ is a two-part true crime documentary series that delves into the unsettling stalking endured by actress Eva LaRue and her daughter, Kaya Callahan, between 2007 and 2019. They were subjected to dozens of letters by an obsessed stalker named James David Rogers, who threatened to rape and kill the mother and daughter. Things got all the more traumatic for them when James started writing to Kaya directly, before calling her high school in Sherman Oaks posing as her father. Until the stalker was apprehended in 2019, Kaya stayed worried about her and her mother’s safety. After James’ conviction and sentencing, the duo was able to live a more carefree life after more than a decade.
Kaya Callahan Got into Creative Writing and Activism Quite Early On in Life
Kaya McKenna Callahan has built a thriving career in the world of content creation, specializing in travel, food, and fashion. The multifaceted personality is also a blogger and activist. On the educational front, Kaya graduated from Notre Dame High School in May 2022, where she was an active member of the Varsity Cheer and Softball teams. She subsequently obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International/Global Studies from Arizona State University in May 2024. During her time there, she not only refined her creative writing but was also involved in Delta Gamma and the ASU Baha’i Club.
Kaya discovered quite early on that she had a knack for writing. At the mere age of 12, she drafted a tribute piece for Robin Williams, which went on to be featured on the websites of the Golden Globe Awards and the Hollywood Foreign Press. Kaya was then selected to serve as a Contributing Writer for the sites. Next year, at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, she received an invitation to be a backstage press volunteer. However, what she considers one of her most significant achievements is spotting her article on her #StillAGirl campaign in Teen Vogue in 2017. The then-15-year-old started the campaign to spread awareness about child marriage and push for its end in front of the legislators.
In March 2022, Kaya assumed the role of a Social Media Marketing Intern at The World Egg and Sperm Bank. After six months, she moved on to Edit Media Group, where she served in the same position until January 2023. In that year, while a student at Arizona State University, she took a break from internships when given a chance to travel to Florence, Italy, for five months and upgrade her skills. Between October 2021 and September 2023, Kaya also worked as a babysitter for Busy Bees Babysitting. In October 2023, she began her internship as a Social Media Marketing Intern at Her Idea, which lasted until January 2024.
