She also demonstrated resourcefulness by constructing a sturdy shelter using blueberry bushes and a tarp, and by rationing her supply of dry jerky to avoid unnecessary hunting. Her strategic approach and adaptability helped her endure the harsh desert conditions for over 30 days, making her one of only two contestants to last that long. Eventually, when her strength began to wane, she made the difficult decision to tap out. Later, she discovered she had come second, with only Nathan Olsen lasting longer. Though she narrowly missed the win, Kelsey left the competition proud of her performance.

Kelsey has built a life and career that perfectly aligns with her passion for nature and the wilderness. In addition to her training work, Kelsey founded and operates Long Acres Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rehabilitating and rehoming horses and burros.
