Kevin McGrath: What Happened to Him? Was He Found?

In September 2023, Kevin McGrath went on a holiday with his family, where he was seen partying and generally having a good time until the final day. However, when everyone gathered for breakfast the following morning, Kevin was nowhere to be seen. His family quickly raised the alarm after they were unable to find him anywhere. Police and the Coast Guard joined the search efforts, but no leads emerged. As time passed, more theories about his disappearance emerged, yet no concrete answers came to light. Freeform’s ‘Somebody Knows Something,’ particularly the episode ‘Lost at Sea,’ examines the evidence that has emerged over the years and how far the investigation has progressed.

Kevin McGrath Was on Probation When He Went on a Cruise With His Family

Kevin Sean McGrath was born on May 9, 1997, to Sean and Debra McGrath. He was born 15 minutes after his twin brother, Andre McGrath, and was the youngest of five siblings, with three older sisters. Kevin was always a bright young man. Soon after finishing high school, he joined the US Army. He was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and later spent three months in Syria between 2018 and 2019. After completing his term, he was stationed at Fort Campbell near Clarksville, Tennessee. During this time, he started using dating apps, and in 2019, he met Addison Thomas.

Two months later, Kevin and Addison found out she was pregnant. He decided to move to Clarksville, Tennessee, to be closer to her, and the couple soon got married. They were blessed with a daughter, and their family later grew with the arrival of a son. In September 2022, neighbors called the police after hearing yelling coming from the house. During the episode, Addison said that Kevin had started using drugs and believed it may have been connected to his supposed PTSD from his time in the Army. She said he had told her he wanted to kill her before getting out a gun. Kevin later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was handed a sentence of six years of supervised probation.

Kevin and Addison eventually separated, and he moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida, to live with his parents for a while. His family said they could see he had a lot on his mind, as he would often go for walks in the middle of the night. In September 2023, the family planned a three-day cruise aboard the Carnival Conquest from Miami, Florida, to celebrate Kevin’s father’s 60th birthday. More than 40 people were part of the plans, and they began their vacation on September 1, 2023. During their time with Kevin, however, nothing about him struck anyone as unusual. In fact, they described him as being in a good mood and joking around with everyone.

Kevin McGrath Was Supposed to Have Breakfast With His Family But Never Showed Up

On September 4, 2023, around 2 am, Kevin McGrath was seen dancing, as captured on video from someone’s personal camera. He was with his cousins at the time, and one of them said in the episode that Kevin did not seem too drunk or out of control. At around 3:30 am, Kevin’s card was used to enter the room he was sharing with his twin brother, Andre. Andre said he heard his brother come in, and the two spoke briefly. Early that morning, Andre heard someone leave the room and assumed Kevin had gone for one of his usual walks. However, when Andre woke up, Kevin was no longer in the room.

Kevin’s family gathered for breakfast at around 7:30 am, but he did not show up. They searched for him throughout the ship but could not find him anywhere. His ID card and personal belongings were still in the room. By 11 am, the police and Coast Guard had been informed, and a search of the sea was conducted, but it yielded no trace of him. His card had not been punched out, suggesting that he had not left the ship through its main exit. Investigators also learned that Kevin had not obtained permission from his probation officer to take the trip. They therefore explored the possibility that he may have left on his own. A Coast Guard officer also claimed there was information suggesting Kevin had told another passenger he was capable of swimming to shore.

A few months into the investigation, the cruise ship released footage to law enforcement that it claimed showed Kevin falling overboard. However, his family has maintained that the clip shows nothing more than a small splash and that Kevin cannot be seen in it at all. Law enforcement has also not closed the case since receiving the footage. Will Ford, another passenger aboard the ship, said in the episode that at around 4–5 am, he allegedly saw a pair of feet protruding from under a stack of chairs on the deck. He claimed that no one from law enforcement had interviewed him. The investigation remains open, and Kevin’s family continues to hope that more information will eventually come to light.
