Kianna Galvin: What Happened to Her? Has She Been Found?

The episode titled ‘The House on Revere Road’ of Investigation Discovery’s ‘Hunt for the Missing: Chicago’ delves deep into the mysterious disappearance of 17-year-old Kianna Galvin in South Elgin, Illinois, in May 2016. After she went missing, her family and friends, alongside the entire community, did what they could to search for the missing teenager and help out the authorities. Unfortunately, evidence uncovered during the investigation suggested the Galvin family’s worst nightmare had come true. The documentary also features exclusive and insightful interviews with Kianna’s loved ones and the officials linked to the investigation.

Kianna Galvin Went Missing Two Days Before Mother’s Day 2016

On July 16, 1998, Fionna Galvin welcomed a little bundle of joy in the form of Kianna Galvin. Growing up, she was accompanied by her beloved younger sister, with whom she shared a close-knit bond. She completed her high school education at South Elgin High School and Auburn High School in Rockford, Illinois. With the goal of getting into an art and design school in Atlanta, Georgia, Kianna was working on getting a GED. Around 12:30 pm on May 6, 2016, on what appeared to be a regular day, the 17-year-old South Elgin resident told her sister that she was going to Jim Hansen Park for a walk with a friend. After returning home from work, Fionna noticed that Kianna still hadn’t returned and called her to know her whereabouts. However, the teenager didn’t answer the calls or her texts.

Fionna also contacted Kianna’s friends, who didn’t know where she was or whom she had met that afternoon. A couple of days later, on Mother’s Day, Fionna reported her daughter missing to the South Elgin Police Department. According to reports, Kianna had left her purse and cell phone charger behind, and her cell phone showed no pings recorded after 1 pm that fateful afternoon. At the time, she had been on juvenile probation, with her probationary period recently ending. Although she had recently gotten out of a relationship, her ex-boyfriend was ruled out as a possible suspect. Moreover, she was reportedly fired from her job the day before her disappearance. The authorities reviewed the missing teen’s cell phone records, which showed she had gone to a house on Revere Road rather than the park.

It belonged to a man named John C. Walker, whom she allegedly met to get some marijuana. When John was confronted about the same, he claimed that the teenager never went inside his house and left the property around 12:45 pm while texting someone else. However, his story was contradicted by Kianna’s cell phone records, as no texts had been sent from her phone between 12:35 pm and 1:10 pm. Moreover, one of his neighbors told the investigators that they had seen Kianna enter the residence and that they noticed blood on a trash can lid outside John’s home on May 12, 2016. Upon testing the blood, it was determined that it belonged to Kianna. Despite the circumstantial evidence against the man, the police lacked enough evidence to arrest him.

Kianna Galvin Remains Missing a Decade Into Her Disappearance

Upon digging deeper into John C. Walker, the detectives learned that he had remodeled the basement of his house on Revere Road in June 2016. About a year after Kianna Galvin’s disappearance, her mother, Fionna, opened up about how difficult the entire situation had been for her and her family. She told NBC Chicago, “I pray every day that she’ll come through the door, and if that doesn’t happen, I have to wrap my brain around it being something else that I don’t want to believe–but that could be the outcome.” A couple of years after Kianna’s disappearance, John was found guilty of aggravated assault of his girlfriend, for which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Over the years that followed, the Galvin family hired a private investigator and even offered a handsome reward in exchange for any information that could lead to Kianna’s discovery. Despite the best efforts of the authorities, her family, and friends, her whereabouts remain unknown to this day. Nobody has been charged in connection with her disappearance, and her case still remains open, even after nearly a decade.
