Kirsten Dunst’s ‘Self Help’ Starts Filming in Los Angeles this Summer

Kirsten Dunst’s next project will be shot in the City of Angels. The filming of ‘Self Help,’ a thriller feature, will take place in Los Angeles this summer. Netflix’s ‘Russian Doll’ screenwriter Flora Birnbaum will make her feature directorial debut with the movie. She also wrote the screenplay for it. The story centers on an LA-based struggling woman who witnesses a hit-and-run and gets sucked into a far-reaching conspiracy. She ends up playing detective after witnessing the hit-and-run and finds herself caught between a shady real estate tycoon and a dubious wannabe actor. No other cast members have been revealed yet.

Kirsten Dunst, of ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Little Women’ fame, has done a total of three films in the last five years, each one completely different from the other two. She played veteran war photographer Lee Smith in Alex Garland’s action thriller ‘Civil War,’ inn owner Rose Gordon in Jane Campion’s 1920s-set Western drama ‘The Power of the Dog,’ and a Toys “R” Us employee in Derek Cianfrance’s ‘Roofman,’ which tells the true story of convicted robber Jeffrey Manchester. She played the protagonist Krystal Stubbs, a water park employee who uses a multibillion-dollar pyramid scheme, in Showtime’s ‘On Becoming a God in Central Florida.’

In Dunst’s upcoming slate, there is ‘The Housemaid’s Secret,’ a sequel to the thriller movie ‘The Housemaid,’ with Sydney Sweeney returning; the ‘Minecraft Movie’ sequel; and Ruben Östlund’s comedy movie ‘The Entertainment System Is Down,’ also starring Keanu Reeves, Tobias Menzies, and Daniel Brühl.

Upcoming projects shot in Los Angeles include the Peacock comedy series ‘Dig,’ featuring Hugh Laurie, Amy Poehler, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Fina Strazza; ‘One Of Them Days 2’ with Keke Palmer and Grammy-winning singer SZA returning; the Netflix movie ‘The Fifth Wheel,’ starring Kim Kardashian; and Colman Domingo’s feature film ‘Scandalous!’ headlined by Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson.
