Kyron Horman was a shy but smart 7-year-old living in Portland, Oregon, with his father, Kaine Horman, and stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman. She photographed him beside the display before later saying she watched him walk toward his classroom around 8:45 am. Kyron Horman Was Last Seen at His School But He Was Marked Absent
Kyron Horman was born on September 9, 2002, to Desiree Young and Kaine Horman. The family was settled in Portland, Oregon. Kyron also had an elder brother, Quinn. However, just before the little boy was born, his parents had separated. The two parents shared custody of the children, but Kyron spent most of his time with his mother, Desiree. In 2004, when she was diagnosed with kidney failure, Desiree said she signed over temporary custody to Kaine. However, due to her ongoing medical treatment and the loss of her job, Desiree eventually lost custody of her children.
Kyron lived with Kaine but had a close relationship with his mother and used to talk to her often. In 2007, his father married Terri Vazquez, also known as Terri Moulton. Kyron later got a younger sister, Kiara, in December 2008. On June 4, 2010, there was a science fair at Skyline Elementary School, where Kyron was enrolled. He generally took the bus to school, but that day he had his science project with him, so Terri drove him to school in her truck. She said she last saw him turning in the hallway toward his classroom at around 8:45 am. At 3:30 pm, when the school bus arrived at the house, Kyron did not get off. Kaine became very worried and learned that his son had been marked absent from school for the entire day.
Kyron Horman’s Disappearance Has Not Led to Any Arrests or Indictments
Authorities at the school claimed that Kyron Horman had not come to any of his classes. However, Terri had a picture of him at school, standing next to his red-eyed tree frog project. By 4:30 pm, it was clear that the seven-year-old was neither at school nor home, and a wide search for him began. Since Terri was the last person known to have seen him, she was called in for interrogation. She said that she had run errands and had even taken a drive with her daughter. However, detectives featured in the episode stated that two hours of her timeline that morning could not be corroborated. According to statements by Kyron’s parents and reports, Terri failed two polygraph tests.
The initial search for Kyron lasted for more than 10 days and was widely reported in the media. Kaine shared in the episode that soon after, his relationship with Terri deteriorated. He said that in late June 2010, detectives told him that Terri had allegedly tried to hire their landscaper, Rodolfo Sanchez, to kill him in January 2010. However, no evidence was found to back these claims, and they never resulted in any charges. On June 28, 2010, Kaine filed for divorce and also sought a restraining order against his then-wife. There were some developments in the case, including in July 2010, when some of Terri’s friends, including DeDe Spicher, were subpoenaed by a grand jury. In the episode, it was said that they were believed to have been with Terri on the day Kyron disappeared, but no one was ever charged.
In June 2012, Desiree Young filed a civil lawsuit against Terri, accusing her of being responsible for Kyron’s kidnapping. However, in July 2013, the lawsuit was dropped, with Desiree saying that she did not want to interfere with the ongoing criminal investigation. Detectives have investigated various angles in the case, including the possibility of a sexual predator or kidnapper being active in the area. Since it remains an active investigation, authorities have not released many details to the public. In 2026, they reiterated that the case is being treated with as much seriousness as it was in 2010. No person of interest has been named in the case, and detectives continue to ask anyone with information to come forward.
