One of the funniest Canadian Sikhs on the internet will head to Hollywood North soon! The filming of the second season of Crave’s comedy series ‘Late Bloomer’ will start in Etobicoke, Toronto, Ontario, on October 28 and conclude on December 4, 2024. Shebli Zarghami will serve as the showrunner. Creator Jasmeet Raina will be part of the writers’ room, which also includes Lakna Edilima, Jagjiwan Sohal, and Cathryn Naiker. Peter Huang will return as the director.
The first season of ‘Late Bloomer’ presents themes of finding one’s place in different cultures, keeping up with a quickly evolving world, and trying to live up to the expectations of one’s parents. Jasmeet Dutta begins experimenting with and figuring out content creation by attending seminars and taking influencers’ advice. As he gains traction, family responsibilities demand his attention, as Maanvi’s roka ceremony is coming up. Despite Jasmeet’s attempts to put his family first, things take a negative turn.
As the installment progresses, Jasmeet handles Neal’s weed, which his father discovered, causing a predicament. With pent-up emotions and boiling anger coalescing, the two have a heartrending argument in which Jasmeet is berated and called a failure. Ultimately, the protagonist puts his family first, taking the blame for the weed rather than ratting out Neal. He likely does not reveal the truth to prevent a fight between his parents and extended family since his father was already suspicious of Neal’s negative influence.
In the second season, we will likely see the continuation of these compelling story arcs: evolving dynamics between Jasmeet and his father, Maanvi facing the upcoming wedding, Jasmeet and Rebecca getting closer, and Chippy’s fight for recognition. The installment will likely see most of the cast members return from season 1, including Jasmeet Raina as Jasmeet Dutta, Baljinder Singh Atwal as Gurdeep Dutta, Sandeep Bali as Supinder Dutta, Ahamed Weinberg as Neal Soori, Sugenja Sri as Chippy, Sachin Mahashi as Sunny, Seher Khot as Rebecca Matthias, Ashley Ganger as Maanvi, and Uppekha Jain as Raysha.
Jasmeet Raina is a YouTuber who gained popularity through his comedic and relatable depictions of growing up as a Sikh in Canada while dealing with poverty and conservative parents. These skits were uploaded to his channel, JusReign, and went viral around 2011. After years of success on the platform, he took a hiatus from YouTube and moved on to other ventures. He also appeared in the 2015 Punjabi film ‘22G Tussi Ghaint Ho.’
The first season of ‘Late Bloomer’ was shot in Toronto and Hamilton. Other shows and films shot in Etobicoke include Netflix’s ‘Ginny & Georgia,’ ‘Workin’ Moms,’ ‘Jersey Girl,’ and ‘The Bold Type.’
