The sixth episode of Apple TV+’s ‘Murderbot’ takes the eponymous robot and his team through a series of trying circumstances that test their faith in each other. With the revelation of SecUnit as an independent thinker, the Preservation Aux team is already a little uncertain about him. Still, given his track record so far, they are ready to give him the benefit of the doubt. However, a major betrayal leads them to reconsider all of that, and Anna Konkle’s Leebeebee is majorly responsible for this turn of events. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Leebeebee’s Revelation as a Villain Leads SecUnit to Act Harshly
When Mensah and the team reached the DeltFall team’s place, all they saw was bloodshed and a mess. They were scared and heartbroken to find everyone dead, but then, they found Leebeebee, who somehow survived this massacre, but she proves to be a rather interesting character. As they try to find out about what actually happened with her team, her answers remain vague, and in return, she keeps asking them about their research and what they have found out about the planet. Being cautious, no one reveals anything too important, mostly because they still don’t know what is going on, which eventually leads her to show her true colours.
In the sixth episode, ‘Command Feed,’ she tries Guranthin to tell her about the survey results, but when he refuses to, she pulls a weapon on him. She holds the entire team captive, revealing that she was never a part of the DeltFall team and is, in fact, complicit in their massacre. Moreover, she also reveals that she planned for Mensah and SecUnit to die, though she doesn’t know that they are alive and well and on their way back. It seems that she has been working for a third party and has been promised millions of credits in return for her services. While she doesn’t reveal the identity of her employers, she does reveal the identity of her bosses, and she mentions that the team will meet them soon enough, and nothing good will come out of it.
To show how serious she is, she shoots Guranthin in the leg, which forces him to give her access to the data. Fortunately for them, SecUnit arrives on the scene just in time. When Leebeebee holds Guranthin captive, believing that it would make the robot stop, she doesn’t anticipate how much the robot does not care about the man she is pointing a gun at. In fact, she doesn’t even get to finish her sentence when SecUnit shoots her head off, not caring if it could hurt the man standing in front of her.
Leebeebee’s Fate is Sealed in Murderbot
Considering the way Leebeebee’s head pops off into a mix of blood and brains, splattering across the faces of the humans in her vicinity, it is clear that there is no hope for Leebeebee’s survival. SecUnit does not pull any punches when it comes to saving his team, even if he doesn’t particularly like spending time with them. As soon as he sees Leebeebee as the danger, his first instinct is to kill him, which he thinks would be applauded by the team, because that’s what happens when his hero saves the day in his favourite TV show, ‘Sanctuary Moon.’ He is shocked to see that real humans don’t react the same, but that doesn’t change anything for poor Leebeebee.
While Anna Konkle’s role may have been for a brief couple of episodes, it has a massive impact on the storyline as it gives a clearer picture of the danger that the Preservation Aux team must prepare themselves for. Konkle loved to explore the full freakishness of her somewhat childlike character, but it is highly unlikely that we will see her again, unless she has a twin the audience hasn’t been made aware of yet, or some other SecUnit hasn’t been created in her image.
