Netflix’s ‘The Great British Baking Show’ is undeniably one of the best reality baking competitions to have come out in recent times, owing to its pure focus on creativity and skills, and of course, Collection 13 is no different. Amongst these 12 competitors this time around is Leighton Morgan, whose talent and cheerfulness shone through from the first episode itself, winning the hearts of viewers across the globe. From the moment we first came across Leighton Morgan, he made it clear that he signed up for this competition to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He wanted to embrace the experience fully, and that’s precisely what he did from the get-go. Leighton never shied away from putting his heart on the table and earned solid praise due to his conduct and talent, despite his short journey on the show.
Leighton Morgan Has Been Baking Since He Was a Young Man
A proud native of Swansea, Wales, Leighton Morgan grew up surrounded by supportive individuals who had always had the courage to do things his own way. He did grow up hearing phrases like “boys don’t bake,” but he always chose to ignore them and follow his passion because it brought him joy. The truth is he has always had a very mathematical mind, so his baking approach has been rather mathematical and scientific too. In fact, his mantra is, “anything can be done with a formula.” That’s why he also likes experimenting with flavors, usually preferring to dabble between or mix Welsh, British, and American flavors.
Over the past few years, Leighton has actually made Sourdough Breads, Apple Pies, Lemon Meringue Pies, homemade Scones with homemade Strawberry and Blueberry Jams, Lemon Drizzle Cakes, Victorian Cakes with Raspberry and White Chocolate Ganache, Danish Pastries, Cherry Tarts, Marble Cakes, Sausage Rolls, Cinnamon Rolls, and much more. The 59-year-old is undoubtedly proud of everything he has managed to accomplish, but he never really thought he was good enough to get cast on ‘The Great British Baking Show.’ In fact, he only finally applied on a “drunken New Year’s Eve” after years of being pushed by loved ones.

Since Leighton grew up playing the organ at his local church, he has always had an ear for music. Therefore, even today, when he bakes, he does so while playing or belting songs from different musicals, most especially ‘Les Misérables.’ However, baking is not the 59-year-old’s primary job; he is a Software Delivery Manager at a large company in Surrey, where he presently resides with his Californian husband, Eric, and their Irish terrier, Cilla. Therefore, whenever Leighton is not working, baking, or spending time exploring new music, he prefers to travel. Whether it be different states within the US, like California and Wisconsin, or different regions in England and Europe, like Essex, Brighton, Italy, and more, he has been everywhere in the past few years alone.
