Jeanne took Jayme to a nearby house belonging to Kristin and Peter Kasinskas, who immediately called 911. Working together, the group ensured Jayme was safe until law enforcement arrived. Patterson was arrested shortly after and later sentenced to life in prison without parole. One true crime case that closely reflects this is the abduction of Colleen Stan, widely known as “The Girl in the Box.” In May 1977, 20-year-old Colleen was hitchhiking in California when she was picked up by Cameron Hooker and his wife, Janice. What followed was a seven-year ordeal in which Colleen was kept in a wooden box beneath the couple’s bed for up to 23 hours a day, enduring unimaginable abuse and manipulation. Hooker used psychological tactics like inventing a secret organization called “The Company” to keep her compliant and terrified. She was finally freed in 1984, thanks to Janice, who came forward and helped Colleen escape.
