Parental Guidance can sometimes be harmful! Moviedelic can confirm that Lifetime has ordered the television film ‘This Child is Mine.’ Principal photography will begin on January 26 in Ottawa, Ontario. The cast and crew are currently under wraps. The plot centers on a woman who must protect her niece from her controlling birth father as he reappears in their lives after a 16-year absence.
Sean Cisterna’s ‘Daddy’s Deadly Secret’ is another gripping true-story-inspired thriller underscored by a father-daughter relationship. It focuses on Abigail, her father, Richard, and his loving wife, Caroline (Abigail’s step-mom). In the beginning, it is revealed that Richard and Caroline, as well as Richard’s ex-wife Ellie and her husband, Doug, share a beautiful relationship with each other and Abigail.
As the plot proceeds, Abigail goes missing, and the search for her brings to light unnerving secrets that point to the possibility that she may not be Richard’s daughter at all. In fact, she doesn’t even exist, at least in the papers. As Richard and Caroline try to find the truth behind it, we get a clear picture of Richard’s past, including his strained relationship with his drug-addict sister Darla. There is also the mysterious girl named Marianne from Abigail’s school, the files Caroline finds at Darla’s house, and a twenty-year-old murder, all of which pose a threat to Abigail’s life and Caroline’s. Can Richard find the truth and protect his family? He will have to be careful as sometimes, people nearer in blood are nearer bloody. The film stars Maya Misaljevic, Sarah Allen, Steve Byers, Andréa Grant, Steve Belford, and Ferelith Young.
Another film showcasing a taboo father-daughter relationship is Elisabeth Röhm’s ‘Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story.’ It focuses on Alyssa (Jackie Cruz) and Steven (Matthew MacCaull), who move in together after an intense relationship. Then, they have a daughter, but when Steven gets abusive toward her, Alyssa sends her away for adoption. 18 years later, we meet an all-grown Katie (Matreya Scarrwener), whom Steven convinces to move back in with them. Meanwhile, he starts neglecting Alyssa and their young daughters, making her move out with the little ones. Shockingly, Alyssa finds out later on that Steven and Katie are having an affair and tries to save the latter by informing her of his abusive nature. Will Katie be saved from her father, who is now her partner?
The film is based on the true story of 20-year-old Katie Rose Fusco Pladl and her incestuous relationship with her biological father, 43-year-old Steven Walter Pladl, culminating in the former’s murder in 2018. The case brought to light Steven’s shockingly abusive past, involving Alyssa Garcia, whom he met over the internet and married when she was just 15.
Lifetime movies shot in and around Ottawa include ‘Our Mother’s Secret Affair’ and ‘Would You Kill for Me.’ Many Hallmark productions, such as ‘Head Over Heels’ and ‘Paging Mr. Darcy’ were also shot in the region.
