Little Disasters: Is Thames Bank a Real Hospital in London?

In Paramount+’s ‘Little Disasters,’ an infant named Betsy is brought to the Thames Bank hospital by her mother, Jess, because she won’t stop crying. An examination reveals that the child has sustained severe injuries, which point towards an act of violence. This leads the doctor, Liz, who is also Jess’ best friend, to call the social services. As the investigation unfolded, some shocking truths came to light. In all this, the hospital becomes the focal point as Betsy continues to fight for her life. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Thames Bank’s Fictional Location is Brought to Life by Elaborate Sets

‘Little Disasters’ follows a fictional story of the characters who go through a challenging time in their lives. While the story takes place in London, England, some key locations in the show are entirely fictional, including the hospital and Thames Bank. Apart from London and other nearby locations, the show’s cast and crew turned towards Budapest, Hungary, to bring various facets of the story to life. The area was used to film an important scene featuring Jess and her friends’ trip to Provence. At the same time, this is also most likely where the hospital scenes were filmed. The crew likely transformed a studio set into Thames Bank, a key recurring location in the show. In real life, there is no hospital named Thames Bank in London. However, to keep things realistic, the show’s creators made the fictional location look as realistic as possible.

With all the drama that unfolds within its walls, the hospital becomes a character in its own right, suffering many ups and downs alongside the characters. We also see a shift in Jess’ relationship with it. A look into her history reveals that she is not entirely trusting of the medical establishment and refuses to have her children vaccinated because she doesn’t want to pump unknown chemicals into them. Everyone around her knows she would never set foot in the hospital unless it were extremely necessary. So, when Liz finds her there with Betsy, she knows that the kid has some severe ailment that needs to be addressed immediately.

This trust in the hospital and its doctors flips when her baby’s situation seems to worsen as Betsy suffers seizures, pushing Jess to the point of running away with her. At the same time, the hospital also becomes her point of refuge when she doesn’t want to be near her husband or friends and just wants someplace to gather herself, particularly as she finds herself gripped by severely intrusive thoughts about Betsy. By the end, she becomes more understanding of the hospital and its staff, and while she may not have changed her stance about the vaccines, she does become more trusting of the system.
