Logan Lucky: Is Hair We R a Real Hair Salon in West Virginia?

Starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, and Daniel Craig, ‘Logan Lucky’ follows a group of people who come together to pull off an unlikely heist. It begins with Jimmy Logan, who decides to rob his employers when he is fired. The first person he enrolls in his plan is his brother, Clyde, and their sister, Mellie, a hairdresser and makeup artist. The film presents the bond between the siblings with a sincerity that adds more realism to the story, on top of the absurdity that pops up time and again. The film also presents a very realistic portrayal of West Virginia and its people and places. One of the prominent locations in the movie is Nellie’s salon. However, for the fans of the film who want to visit the place, it is not a possibility.

Hair We R is a Fictional Salon in Logan Lucky

In stories like ‘Logan Lucky,’ the place factors into the personality of the movie as much as its people, which is why every location in the movie has been fabricated in a way that allows the audience to connect with it. In the end, however, it remains just that: a fabrication. The place that Mellie works at in the movie is called Hair We R, which is a pretty catchy name for a salon. It doesn’t, however, exist in real life.

There is a place called “Hair We Are” in Charleston, West Virginia. The filmmakers might have used it as the inspiration for Mellie’s salon’s name, but there is no official acknowledgment from the filmmakers to confirm that. With this in mind, at best, the similarities between the names are simply a coincidence, though not entirely unexpected, considering that the wordplay works rather well and is a seemingly popular choice for salon names worldwide.

The events in the movie also take place in West Virginia, which might give credence to the place it shares a name with. However, the filming for the movie didn’t take place in West Virginia at all. Most of the movie was filmed in locations in and around Atlanta, Georgia. For the parts featuring the race tracks, the cast and crew turned to Charlotte, North Carolina. But for the most part, the cities of Georgia sat in for the locations depicted in the movie. A soundstage was used for the salon scenes.

While it is not a real place, Hair We R remains integral to Mellie’s arc and character. Her job puts her closer to her niece, Jimmy’s daughter, Sadie, and makes Mellie a bridge between them. Her work also makes her knowledgeable about the lives of the townsfolk, and she puts this information to good use at pivotal points in the movie.
