The final episode of ‘Love Death + Robots’ season 4, titled ‘For He Can Creep,’ revolves around a fight for supremacy between a mystical cat coalition and Satan. With the latter threatening to disrupt the fine balance of the world, Jeoffry, the main cat leader at the center of the story, tries to resist Satan’s wily charm while also mobilizing a group of his friends to help him in his fight. However, things become complicated because of Satan’s interest in the Poet, a talented eighteenth-century artist whose work is sought by the demon king of hell. As such, the climactic battle is mainly based on who triumphs over the Poet. The conflict is made all the more interesting because of the inclusion of magic and sorcery as cats and demons go head-to-head to determine the safety of the world. SPOILERS AHEAD.
What is Satan’s Plan?
The story begins in 1757 in a London-based asylum known as St. Luke’s. A cat named Jeoffry preys on rogue imps that wander around the building in droves, driving their destructive population away. At night, Jeoffry returns to a cell inside the asylum where a man named the Poet lives. He is working on decoding a verse that he believes could unlock the universe’s secrets. When Jeoffry and the Poet go to sleep, a dark shadow enters the cell from the barred windows, metamorphosing into Satan, the King of Demons. Subsequently, Jeoffry tries to drive Satan away, suspicious about his agenda. We learn that the cat is sentient and can communicate its thoughts telepathically. However, Satan has a grand plan that he wants to bring to life, which requires Jeoffry’s assistance.
As they head out for a supernatural walk high above London’s streets, Satan tells Jeoffry that he will be made master of the universe and given all sorts of treats if the cat is willing to give the Poet to him. While the cat is seduced by the prospect of having so much food and power at his beck and call, he vehemently opposes Satan’s demand because he considers the Poet as a valuable “pet.” When Satan continues to persist with his ultimatum, the feline loses his patience and attacks Satan. Subsequently, a scuffle breaks out between the two as Satan unleashes his true power on the cat, who evades the King of Demons by slipping past his attacks. However, the fight inevitably comes to an end as Satan gets the upper hand and bites Jeoffry on the nape. The Poet, awake from the commotion, urges Satan to spare the cat in exchange for his total obedience, a deal the demon king gladly accepts.
How Do the Alley Cats Take Down Satan?
After being ousted from the cell, Jeoffry visits the Alley Cats, which are comprised of three powerful felines, specifically Nighthunter Moppet, Tom, and Polly. The trio hears Jeoffry’s plea to help him attack Satan and save the Poet from his clutches. While they are hesitant, they realize that Satan’s influence over the Poet can only spell danger for the rest of the world. If left unchecked, the demon king will use every ounce of the Poet’s abilities to dominate humanity. Jeoffry is willing to risk his life to stop it, but he cannot do it alone. As such, the coalition of the Alley Cats is a vital step towards gathering companions who can help him carry out the task, especially with powerful entities such as Moppet, who is capable of summoning shadow clones.
Once the Alley Cats begin their offensive, Satan transforms into his true self and fights back. The Poet uses the distraction to slip under his table for cover. Meanwhile, Jeoffry waits elsewhere while the other cats engage the enemy. The fight begins in favor of the felines, with the initiative slowly ebbing away as Satan unleashes the true extent of his abilities, which are unmatched by most. However, the cats never give up the fight and keep persisting in their struggle, even if Satan threatens to kill them. At that moment, Jeoffry uses the shadow abilities to slip undetected into the cell and eats the main poem, which the demon king wants from the Poet. With it destroyed, Satan realizes that his game is up and is forced to leave the place. As a result, the victory goes to the cats for saving the day.
