Love Death Robots Season 4 Spider Rose Ending Explained

In episode 3 of ‘Love Death + Robots’ season 4, titled ‘Spider Rose,’ an outer space survivor named Lydia Martinez, who goes by the name Spider Rose, finds herself trying to stave off the depravities of the Shaper aliens, who took the most important person from her life. Fueled by guilt and anger, Spider finds a new lease when a traveling merchant ship offers her a new friendly companion as a friend. While it has the desired effect on her, the creature’s origins and mystery pervades throughout the narrative, leaving many questions about its exact biology by the end of the episode. Additionally, Spider’s crusade for vengeance finds some form of completion near the final moments, suggesting that she is satisfied with her actions. However, the cryptic conclusion leaves a few chilling thoughts behind as we discuss the intricacies of the character’s fates. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Is Spider Eaten? What Happens to Nosey?

After receiving Nosey from the merchant ship, Spider proceeds to take care of the creature like a close friend. Its cuteness and loving attitude towards her slowly start to change her mind about the whole pet and master arrangement, even though she is initially reluctant to take it in. The day after Nosey moves in with her, she realizes that it has consumed all the roaches in her special environment and entered into a cocoon phase, preparing to metamorphose into something else. When it comes out of its encasing, the creature looks even cuter and more akin to a dog. From this point, Nosey and Spider’s relationship only grows stronger. However, near the end, Spider’s encounter with the Shapers destroys the life support systems of the ship. Subsequently, she escapes with Nosey onto a pod, where the latter eats her like it previously ate all the other roaches.

While Nosey’s actions may seem disturbing, it comes after an emotional speech from Spider, who admits that the creature has helped her rekindle her love for life. Before Nosey’s arrival, she was just existing in her special biome, counting the days until she could confront the Shaper threat. This period of idleness allowed her the opportunity to think more deeply about her past losses, especially the death of her romantic partner, who the Shapers killed. Because of the trauma, Spider is more focused on revenge and sating her bloodlust. In the simplest terms, she wants the Shapers to pay for what they did to her. Consequently, her heart had grown cold, just like the frigid neighborhood of outer space. To that end, Nosey’s arrival in her life signified a change in her attitude toward life and the importance of love.

With the life support systems destroyed, Spider encourages Nosey to eat her and survive because she is doomed anyway. She believes that giving up her life will be valuable if she can help a loved one prosper. Therefore, Nosey’s decision to eat her comes from Spider’s own wishes. However, a more intriguing development occurs when the merchant ship finds Nosey preserved within another cocoon while scouting the drifting pod. It takes the cocoon onto the ship, where Nosey comes out. As soon as the creature comes into the light, it is evident that it has taken on certain physical features belonging to Spider, including her facial appearance and her hair. It signifies that Nosey is actually some sort of eternally metamorphosizing creature that constantly evolves after eating other living creatures.

Does Jade Die?

Although Nosey consuming Spider is the big ending revelation, another important storyline within the episode is the latter’s animosity against the Shapers, particularly an individual named Jade. Because Jade employs multiple clones, Spider has been unable to eradicate him for good, even though she has killed him around a dozen times already. To make matters worse, Jade is directly responsible for killing Spider’s lover, an incident that scars her psyche and fuels her dream of revenge every single day. Her hatred is so strong she even considers buying weapons to attack the planet where the Shapers live. The low likelihood of her plan’s success does not faze her in the least, mainly due to a deep conviction that she needs to take action against Jade to move on. Therefore, the opportunity to kill him arrives near the end when Jade seeks her out himself.

Jade and his clones take a spaceship to the center of Spider’s space biome, destroying its energy source and other vital infrastructure. However, Spider uses the chance to fire back at him as well, managing to vanquish his other clones while only Jade Prime remains. In the final battle, he confronts her inside the pod, where Nosey helps Spider. The duo manages to thwart Jade Prime’s every move, albeit losing the pod in the ensuing showdown. Eventually, Spider delivers the final blow by impaling Jade Prime with a chemical missile that instantly eviscerates him, similar to his clones. Thus, after struggling for a long time, Spider achieves her goal of revenge against the perpetrator who ruined her life forever.
