Helmed by Roger Kumble and based on the eponymous Wattpad series by Stefania S., Prime Video’s ‘Love Me Love Me’ reimagines the quintessential love triangle narrative with the stories of June, Will, and James. June’s move from London to Milan means that she has to begin the high school ritual of making friends all over again. From the get-go, however, her life is swept up in the storm that is James Hunter, a part-time MMA fighter with a troubled past but a hearty relationship with his best friend, Will. When Will also falls for June, a complicated web of dynamics begins to take shape. At the end of this romantic drama movie, June is faced with perhaps the most important choice she has come across yet: whether she wants Will or James. SPOILERS AHEAD.
June and James’ Dream Love Story Comes True at the End of Love Me Love Me
By the end of ‘Love Me Love Me,’ it is clear that June has romantic feelings for James over Will, but we never quite see their relationship progress from there. Instead, their budding love story contributes to the conclusion of another major arc: that of Will and James’ friendship. While the duo is constantly at odds due to both of them liking June, the ending shows that Will has moved on from that phase, and June and James’ dynamic can now continue without a hitch. In the final piece of dialogue, June even teases that she may get to properly kiss James soon, and while that moment never takes place on screen, it is still a confirmation of the love triangle’s conclusion.

While the movie gives us a peek into how June feels about her relationships, we never get a clear answer when it comes to James’ perspective. At the start, he is adamant that his connection to June does not exist beyond his care for Will, but that equation changes soon enough. When Will confronts James directly, he is still unable to confirm or deny how he feels about June, and that marks the last time we see him engage in a conversation explicitly about love. However, the subtext and physical cues are already enough to strongly imply that James is romantically interested in June. As such, in the final scene, the duo lies side by side, fully comfortable in and appreciative of their relationship.
Will Moves on From His Unrequited Love Stage and is on Track for a Better Future
Although June and James’ dynamic has a rough start, both come out as better individuals by the end of the movie. In James’ case, the journey involves cutting off ties with his stepfather, who is the source of several of his darker behaviors. For June, it is about getting to truly know herself in all dimensions, even when that means breaking the rules a bit. Together, they create an emotionally charged journey on-screen, and it makes sense for things to go to the next step. Notably, James is the one she is sexually attracted to the most, and while Will is initially the person she wants to be her boyfriend, June’s cocktail of sexual and romantic desire ultimately leads her in the direction of James.

With June and James potentially getting into a proper relationship sooner rather than later, the larger question that remains is Will’s fate. While he no longer has any issues with either of his two friends, we also know that he is perhaps the most emotionally broken character in the series. To that end, there is a scary possibility of him relapsing into his older mistakes. Another possibility, however, is that he resumes his relationship with Ari, given that we truly know nothing about why the couple broke up, and cannot pass judgment about the context. What remains consistent across all possibilities, however, is the fact that James and June will always stay Will’s best friends, ensuring that they share the highs and lows of his future endeavors.
