It was in November 2009 when high school sophomore Blake Robbins was accused of improper behavior inside his home by an administrator, resulting in a controversy coming to light. As per Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Spy High,’ he was actually accused of selling drugs, with a photograph of him in his bedroom, taken from his school-issued laptop’s webcam as supposed proof. The administrator to accuse him was then-Assistant Principal Lynn “Lindy” Matsko, and it was her refusal to cite her source for the image that had his family sue the school district for using the laptops to spy on students.
Lynn Matsko Always Maintained She Had No Hand in the Webcam Monitorization of Students
Although not a lot of details regarding Lynn Matsko’s background, early years, or professional experiences are publicly available as of writing, we do know she is an educator through and through. In fact, it appears as if she honed in on this field when she was just a young girl, driving her to enroll at the Millersville University of Pennsylvania for a Teaching Certification as soon as she could. She then attended the land-grant research University of Delaware for a Multicultural Education degree before pursuing Educational Leadership/Administration at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State).
Only after all this was Lynn able to establish a career as a teacher in the affluent Lower Merion School District in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where she gradually rose the ladder. In fact, by the time the late-2000s rolled around, she proudly held the position of Assistant Principal of Harriton High School and already had a reputation for being strict yet considerate. Therefore, when the controversy of the school district allegedly using webcams to monitor their students came to light, Blake Robbins himself defended her owing to the backlash she, as well as her family, were facing.
It’s imperative to note that by this point in early 2010, the district had already admitted to installing “security software” on all laptops it issued to ensure tracking in case of emergencies but denied using it to monitor students. Furthermore, Lynn also held a press conference, stating, “At no time have I ever monitored a student via a laptop webcam, nor have I ever authorized the monitoring of a student via security tracking webcam either at school or within the home. And I never would.” However, when the matter was investigated, it turned out she reportedly knew about the webcam being on for days on the laptops of students deemed “bad” or “troubled” even without any reports of the device having been reported damaged or missing. As per records, she had allegedly even told the school’s IT professionals to keep the program running on at least one occasion, but she was never charged, disciplined, or penalized for it.
There were several aspects to the investigations into this controversy, and even the FBI got involved to ascertain whether there was any criminality behind it, but no charges were ever filed. As per reports, back then, the consensus was that while the use of webcams on these school-issued laptops was an invasion of the teenage student’s privacy, it was indeed done for safety reasons. Therefore, anyone associated with it at the school district or administrator level, including Harriton High School’s Assistant Principal Lynn “Lindy” Matsko, walked away scot-free and continued their careers as usual.
Having Retired, Lynn Matsko is Currently Enjoying the Simple Pleasures of Life
It was likely in the 2010s that Lynn Matsko retired as an educator for good following over three decades of service, and she has since been leading a happy, comfortable life. It appears as if she is still based in or around Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where she is surrounded by her loved ones. Lynn is a curious soul who has a deep admiration for languages and world history. Not only that, she is always fascinated with the idea of learning new things. Therefore, it is not surprising that with all her free time now, Lynn is embracing her passion for baking and cooking. From baking almond joy biscotti and Puffy pitas to sourdough bread for turkey sandwiches and cranberry walnut bread, she does it all!
Lynn finds joy in the little things and is always up for social events where she can engage in meaningful and interesting conversations. One such highlight of 2025 was an Irish wedding Lynn attended in April, following which she took to Instagram to appreciate the fun wedding and compliment the beautiful bride. The strong-willed woman is also quite vocal about her political opinions and is never afraid to share her stance on world issues on her social media profiles.
Lynn Matsko’s Kids Are Her Entire World
Lynn Matsko’s world revolves around her two sons, Ian and Zane. She is proud of the kindhearted and determined individuals the two have grown up to be. She has also shared that her father would be proud of her grandkids “to see his legacy live on in his grandsons,” adding that he also seemingly passed on his “wit and sarcasm along with his love of cooking” to them. The doting mother has also welcomed Ian and Zane’s respective partners with open arms. As a retired educator, she looks forward to spending time with her friends and family. Her favorite activity seems to be creating mouthwatering delicacies, such as bowtie cookies and pizzas, in the kitchen alongside her sons. Both her sons are quite grateful and appreciative of their mother and never miss an opportunity to express all the love they have for her.
In fact, a Mother’s Day ritual in the Matsko household is the boys making pizzas or a delicious meal for their lovely lady. Lynn also enjoys satiating her travel bug now and then by visiting new places to witness their scenic beauty and explore their cultures, but never without her sons. Together, they also embark on family trips from time to time. During their trip to England in 2020, the trio watched Hamilton at Victoria Palace Theatre and checked out the intriguing historical artifacts at the Pitt-Rivers Museum, among other things. In 2023, they took a trip to Washington, DC, and paid their respects to all those who lost their lives in the war at the World War II Memorial.
