What Happened to Mahinder Phorey? Did Yashpal Sharma Leave Maamla Legal Hai?

Netflix’s ‘Maamla Legal Hai,’ in its second season, focuses on the new dynamic at Patparganj Court after VD Tyagi is appointed Principal District Judge. With Tyagi’s absence from the lawyer’s chamber, Mintu and Sujata clash over who gets to take his place. Meanwhile, Ananya is determined to gain more experience and help people win cases against powerful parties. Tyagi’s new role as a judge presents its own moral and legal challenges, which make his journey more difficult.

Ananya gets involved in a case against a deodorant company, Sujata and Mintu handle various cases while competing with each other, and Vishwas fights his own battles as the manager of the court. Despite having a major role to play in the first season of the show, Mahinder Phorey is notably absent in the second season. His character’s whereabouts and the future of his enmity with Tyagi remain uncertain, even as the story takes interesting turns. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Mahinder Phorey’s Adversarial Relationship with Tyagi is a Major Part of the Narrative

Mahinder Phorey remains a thorn in Tyagi’s life throughout the runtime of the first season. He surprises Tyagi by announcing his candidature for the post of President of the Delhi Bar Association. Phorey attempts to affect Tyagi’s ambitions by getting him involved in difficult cases and challenging his candidature. Phorey’s desire to dominate the election, his hunger for power, and his ability to manipulate those around him make him a serious threat to Tyagi’s ascent in the legal world of Delhi. Phorey is able to channel his knowledge and popularity to somehow turn the election in his favor.

Tyagi is left dejected after losing the election, and Phorey adds salt to the wound after his excessive celebration. The point of no return in the enmity between Phorey and Tyagi comes when Tyagi slaps Phorey in the bathroom after the election results. Phorey provokes Tyagi and claims that he is a loser, after which the latter grows angry. Despite Phorey getting elected the President of the Delhi Bar Association, Tyagi doesn’t hesitate to rough him up.

This leads to a major worry as Tyagi assumes his enemy will file a police case against him. However, Phorey doesn’t pursue charges against his adversary. The reasons behind Phorey’s silence remain unknown. Throughout the second season, Phorey is not seen on screen or even mentioned. While Tyagi reaches new heights in his career, Phorey’s potential presence in the upcoming parts of the story becomes more important.

Mahinder Phorey Might Return for Future Seasons of Maamla Legal Hai

Since Phorey is an integral part of the story, it can be presumed that he is still a part of the show. Since his fate remains uncertain, it is likely that he is just serving as the President of the Delhi Bar Association. With the power that comes with his new role, he might have let go of his ego against Tyagi. It is also possible that Phorey might be waiting for the opportune moment to target Tyagi again and seek revenge for the slapping incident. Phorey is not a man who will forget insults easily and will probably have an elaborate strategy to trap Tyagi when he is vulnerable. Now that Tyagi has let go of his judgeship, he is easier to handle for Phorey. It may have been a deliberate strategy from the makers of the show to stay away from Phorey’s character arc in the second season because Tyagi is a judge for a majority of the runtime.

However, as the story moves forward, Phorey will most likely utilize his authority as the President of the Delhi Bar Association to harm a now less powerful Tyagi in unexpected ways. Thus, Yashpal Sharma, who portrays Mahinder Phorey in the show, might reprise his character and have greater scope in the future. There is more to explore in Phorey’s life, including his relationship with his juniors and the way he handles the politics of the association. If Phorey indeed returns, his character will be significant in driving the stakes of the story.
