Malcolm McDowell-starrer ‘The Mystery of Casa Matusita’ is scheduled to commence filming in Spain later this year. The horror film follows Mike, an aspiring writer, who seizes an opportunity from Time Magazine to travel to Lima, Peru, and write about the infamous haunted house, Casa Matusita. Despite the place’s dark history, Mike, with the support of his wife Lucy, believes it’s his big break and sets out to unravel the mystery of the haunted house. As they move in, eerie events unfold which not only bring out their inner demons but also their deepest desires.
Spain, where the shoot is set to begin, is the preferred filming location of many filmmakers to shoot diverse projects, owing to its picturesque landscapes, historic architecture, and rich cultural heritage. The county has earlier hosted the production of several films and television shows such as ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,’ ‘Me Before You,’ ‘Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,’ ‘The Bourne Identity,’ ‘Game of Thrones,’ and ‘Who Is Erin Carter?’
The film is directed by Catherine C. Pirotta based on a script she wrote with Lino Bolanos. The filmmaker previously helmed numerous short films, including ‘Holding On,’ ‘Fly a Way in LA,’ ‘Adopting Change,’ and ‘5 Minutes.’ The executive producers on the project include Daniel Diamond (‘Tekken’), John S. Hicks (‘The Perfect Weapon’), and Jason Loughridge (‘Black Car’).
Malcolm McDowell stars in the film as Supay. The acclaimed actor is recognized for his performances as Alex DeLarge in ‘A Clockwork Orange,’ Tolian Soran in ‘Star Trek Generations,’ Boad in ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead,’ and Austin Cloquet in ‘Mr. Magoo.’ He also appears in television shows like ‘Gossip Girl,’ ‘Truth Seekers,’ ‘Mozart in the Jungle,’ ‘Franklin & Bash,’ and ‘Heroes.’
The film also stars Skeet Ulrich as Mike, Bruce Davison as Victor, and Catalina Sandino Moreno as Lucy. Ulrich is famous for his roles as Billy Loomis in the ‘Scream’ film series, Vincent Lopiano in ‘As Good as It Gets,’ Kevin Manley in ‘Kevin of the North,’ and Ray Singleton in ‘The Magic of Ordinary Days.’ Davison is known for his portrayal of David in ‘Longtime Companion,’ for which he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Davison’s other works include the films ‘Words and Pictures,’ ‘Willard,’ ‘Vendetta,’ and ‘The Curse of Sleeping Beauty.’ Moreno is an Academy Award-nominated actress, recognized for her appearances as María Álvarez in ‘Maria Full of Grace,’ Sarah in ‘The Hottest State,’ Leigh in ‘At the Devil’s Door,’ and Celia in ‘The Quarry.’ The film is produced by Arramis Films, along with Miracle Road.
