Marcelo Macarron: Where is Nora Dalmasso’s Husband Now?

While the murder of Nora Dalmasso rocked the nation of Argentina for the mysteries and unexplained narratives it brought to life, the bulk of the media and public scrutiny fell upon Marcelo Macarrón, Dalmasso’s husband, who had to face tough criticism and a dissection of his relationship with his wife everywhere he went. As explored in Netflix’s true crime docuseries ‘The Many Deaths of Nora Dalmasso,’ Marcelo and the children – Facundo Macarrón and Valentina Macarrón – had to front up to a barrage of intense and unending questions about their lives, most of which crossed the realms of wide-eyed interest. However, this morbid fascination in the family was said to be influenced by Marcelo’s stoic personality following the death of his wife, which encouraged further theories about the truth behind the complex crime.

Marcelo Macarrón Avoided the Press Following His Wife’s Murder

In November 2006, Marcelo Macarrón was on a trip with a group of friends in Punta del Este, Uruguay, where he spent the weekend playing golf at the Mercosur Tournament. While away from home, Marcelo claimed that he felt something was off when he called home a few times to talk to his wife, Nora Dalmasso. On November 25, Dalmasso was found dead in their Villa Golf house in the city of Río Cuarto, Córdoba, murdered via strangulation by the belt of her robe. The startling news upended the life of the Macarrón family as each member slowly learned about the death of their loved one. Subsequently, an investigation was opened up to look into the incident while Marcelo tried to stay away from the intense media gaze, extending protection to his children as well.

In his younger years, Marcelo was a former rugby star who also played for the local team. He was always striving for the best when he met Dalmasso, who was considered the most beautiful woman in Río Cuarto. However, following her murder, Marcelo had no time to mourn in peace as he felt the scrutiny targeted his way for his stoic appearance in public and also the family’s social dynamics in general. Eventually, as the pressure continued to ramp up, Marcelo agreed to give a press conference addressing the media’s questions about the family’s inner circle and his thoughts on an extramarital relationship story that the media believed Dalmasso was involved in. Although he tried batting away any salacious or accusatory questions, the scrutiny and public interest continued to rise as the murder remained unsolved day after day.

Marcelo Macarrón Was Accused of Murdering His Wife

From 2007 onwards, a number of suspects were brought to the fore in a bid to serve justice as swiftly as possible in Nora Dalmasso’s murder. However, nothing seemed to stick very far in the desperate drive for the truth. Eventually, the authorities turned to Dalmasso’s son, Facundo, as the alleged killer of his mother after finding his DNA at the scene where the crime took place. As a result, Marcelo had to watch for years as the media and law enforcement brought the brunt of their force on his son. Fortunately, all charges against him were dropped, and the publicization of the family’s every secret and personal affair was seemingly brought to an end. Yet, this was only a temporary measure, as in 2016, a new prosecutor in charge of the case accused Marcelo of killing his own wife.

In the initial stages of the Dalmasso murder case, Marcelo was considered largely untouchable by the prosecution because of his alibi and his trip to Uruguay, which placed him far from the murder scene. However, the authorities claimed that Marcelo hired a hitman to kill his wife for breaking his trust and betraying him behind his back. Their hypothesis was that Marcelo arranged an airtight alibi in preparation for a meticulously planned murder involving a hired contract killer motivated by economic desire and a financial need to maintain his high-end lifestyle. To that end, Marcelo was formally charged with aggravated homicide born from relationship treachery and the promise of remuneration. In 2022, Marcelo went on trial to answer for his accused crimes, with his children supporting him all the way.

Marcelo Leads a Quiet Life Today While Cherishing His Wife’s Memory in Private

Marcelo Macarrón’s 2022 trial allowed him and his family to finally speak out about their experiences in a stable and public environment for the first time in a long time. The trial became a media sensation in Argentina as everyone waited with bated breath to see how the jury would react to the case. However, in July 2022, Marcelo was acquitted of all charges after the prosecutor, Julio Rivero, announced that there was no evidence to charge him. As a result, his name was judicially cleared, allowing the Macarrón family to breathe an extended sigh of relief. Yet, it also meant that sixteen years after the murder took place, no one was any closer to figuring out the real identity of Nora Dalmasso’s murderer and the motivations behind the crime. “Do you know where Nora Dalmasso’s killer is? In the belt of her robe,” Rivero had said in the trial that acquitted Marcelo.

Following his court trial, Marcelo adopted a low profile as he slipped back into the shadows, likely as a consequence of being hounded by the media and authorities for years as his wife’s suspected killer. In December 2024, the Special Prosecutor’s Unit in Río Cuarto stated that they had identified a floor polisher named Roberto Bárzola as a DNA match for genetic material that had been found on the gown belt tied around the victim’s neck and from hair collected near the groin area. The Macarrón family had urged the prosecution in 2007 to include Bárzola in a list of people whose DNA was being compared with the genetic material at the crime scene. However, the authorities did not follow this request. However, Bárzola is now the prime suspect in a new investigation led by the sixth prosecutor in charge of the case, Pablo Jávega.

While fighting for justice for Nora Dalmasso continues to be a big part of the Macarrón family, Marcelo tries to avoid the cacophony of the public’s attention as much as possible since his trial days. Intriguingly, he decided to continue his life in the same Villa Golf house where his wife’s body was discovered. Today, he still lives in the same house even though most expected him to leave the place and abandon the painful memories it brought with it. In fact, Marcelo decided to make it feel like a warm and cozy home again by pushing for a remodeling of the rooms, which also extended to the bedroom where Dalmasso was found. In the meantime, he continues practicing as an orthopedic surgeon, with his retirement looming over the horizon. He also has his son and daughter to keep him company as they hope for the truth to come out about Dalmasso’s murder.
