Nicole Kidman and the star-studded cast of ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ will head to the Empire State next year! The eight-episode Apple TV+ series will start principal photography in New York in January 2025. David E. Kelley serves as the showrunner of the project, which is based on Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel of the same title. Kidman will star alongside Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman.
The comedy-drama series follows Margo Millet (Fanning), who finds herself in dire financial straits while dealing with an unwanted pregnancy and a father who shows up at her door asking to live with her. The child of a Hooters waitress (Pfeiffer) and an ex-professional wrestler, Jinx (Offerman), she discovers that she is pregnant after a brief affair with an English professor in her junior college. Struggling to find a greater purpose in her life, she decides to keep the baby despite her well-wishers advising her against it and drops out of school.
The narrative progresses with Margo facing eviction. She is happy to help Jinx when he asks to live with her, offering childcare in return. Already at rock bottom, she feels little hesitation in creating an OnlyFans account and taking her father’s advice to create a character with a compelling story. Margo unexpectedly gains wild success on the platform, alleviating many of her problems but raising questions about issues that may arise out of internet fame.
Kidman’s recent ventures include Paramount+’s ‘Lioness,’ Netflix’s ‘The Perfect Couple,’ ‘A Family Affair,’ and Halina Reijn’s ‘Babygirl.’ Fanning entered the spotlight with her work in ‘Somewhere’ as Cleo, followed by appearances in ‘Super 8’ as Alice Dainard and Disney’s ‘Maleficent’ as Aurora. She garnered acclaim for portraying Catherine in Hulu’s ‘The Great,’ a satirical period drama revolving around the queen of Russia.
New York’s distinctive character will likely be woven into Margo’s journey in ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles,’ focusing on the unforgiving economic challenges associated with city life as faced by a single mother. Popular films and shows shot in the state include HBO’s ‘The Penguin,’ Hulu’s ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ and Blake Lively’s ‘It Ends with Us.’
