When Mary Fitzgerald first met French native Romain Bonnet, she initially thought of him as a young client planning to make a transatlantic move for his burgeoning modeling career. The idea was for her to show him some suitable homes in the local area as his agent, but they sensed a mutual connection as they got talking and just could not ignore it as the days passed. She did have some pause at the time because he is closer in age to her son than her – she was a teenage mom – but she gradually realized their 12/13-year age gap doesn’t matter because they share true feelings for one another.
Thus began Mary and Romain’s romance, following which they gradually learned to navigate a life together, figured out their differences, and recognized what really makes them work in the long run. The couple did tie the knot in a secret civil ceremony in March 2018, yet they chose not to tell anyone because they were still trying to ascertain if they were the right forever fit for each other. In other words, they were legally married before ‘Selling Sunset’ even began filming, but they maintain that they weren’t in a true union until they tied the knot at the end of season 2 after a year-long engagement.
During this period, Mary and Romain tackled not only their financial differences but also future expectations, only to realize their efforts for one another made them a perfect match. It was in late 2019 when the couple made everything official in front of the world, following which they decided to take some time to travel before finally deciding to start a family together in 2022. By this point, they had moved into a new home and she had even frozen her embryos to ensure they had a better chance of having biological children, but their subsequent IVF journey sadly ended in a miscarriage. It was undeniably heartbreaking for them both; yet, the way they came together to support each other during this tough time was remarkable.

Therefore, today, the couple is actually proud of where they stand, not only because of all they have overcome but also because of the level of sheer joy they bring to one another, even in dark times.
Mary and Romain are thus still enjoying matrimonial bliss in Los Angeles, California, where they also continue to seize every opportunity life presents to them, even if it is not what they had planned or hoped for. The couple no longer publicly discusses their family goals or expectations, but it’s evident they are happy with whatever may be because they have filled their lives with new experiences and joy. In fact, it appears as if their sole priority these days is to spend as much quality time together as possible, whether it be after work daily or while traveling across the world. They have not let their inner playfulness, curiosity about existence, support for one another’s respective careers, or desire to make efforts die down, and that is their secret to success.
