Megan Davis was first introduced to the audience in season 8, episode 14 of TLC’s ‘My 600-lb Life.’ Her struggles with weight began in early childhood. By the time she was just one year old, she was already overweight. Although she shared a close bond with her parents, she shared how her half-sisters from her mother’s previous marriage were often mean to her. Megan leaned on her father for comfort, with her mom frequently away at work. Food became their shared connection, and by age 5, she weighed 250 lbs. When her parents got divorced when she was 11 years old, food became her primary coping mechanism, leading her to weigh over 300 lbs. By the age of 24, Megan knew something had to change if she truly wanted to live, and she ended up seeking professional help.
Megan Davis Continued Her Battle, Although Surgery Was Not an Option
During her first appointment, Megan weighed 604.7 lbs. Dr. Nowzaradan gave her a target to lose 80 lbs in two months by following a strict 1200-calorie diet and regular exercise. However, by her third-month check-in, she had only lost 14 lbs. Once again, the doctor gave her the same goal. That time, Megan took her efforts up a notch and joined a gym to try harder to stay on track. However, her progress was still very slow. When she purchased a scale in month five, she realized she was still far from her goal. Hence, she asked for more time from Dr. Nowzaradan. By the seventh month, Megan had brought her weight down to 558.6 lbs.
Concerned about Megan’s health, Dr. Nowzaradan emphasized the urgency of her situation. He even asked her to relocate to Houston for the program. At her next appointment, he informed her that if she succeeded at losing 30 lbs more, she could be eligible for weight loss surgery, provided all her tests showed that she was at no risk of going through the procedure. By month 11, Megan weighed 492.3 lbs. Unfortunately, tests revealed that Megan had several medical complications that made surgery too risky for her at that time. However, the doctor encouraged her to continue losing weight so her body could regain strength and support the procedure. By the end of one year, Megan’s weight came down to 481 lbs, with her total weight loss being 120 lbs.
Megan is Taking One Step at a Time Toward a Bright Future
Megan Davis graduated from Taylorville Senior High School in 2013 with big dreams for her future. She was determined to find a job, gain independence, and eventually have her own place. By then, her weight had soared to 600 lbs, making standing difficult for long periods. Consequently, she had to settle for jobs that allowed her to sit and work, putting some of her ambitions on hold. Megan’s life became more complicated when she explained how she found herself in an abusive relationship. Although Megan moved on, her multiple medical issues completely derailed her plans to become a Pediatric registered nurse.
As of writing, Megan has not shared any recent updates about her professional pursuits, indicating that she has chosen to keep them under wraps. However, we do know that she has been working as a babysitter and steadily putting her life back together. More importantly, Megan has controlled her weight through positive lifestyle changes. Although the reality star is occasionally active on Facebook, her interests shine through quite a lot on the platform. She is a passionate football fan, especially devoted to the Chicago Bears. Aside from this, Megan is also a music enthusiast who enjoys the works of artists like Matt Williams, Meagan White, Justin Bieber, and many more.
Besides this, Megan is connected to the ‘My 600-lb Life’ community as a member of fan groups and support networks. She was again featured in the spin-off ‘My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?’ It revealed that she was still not approved for weight loss surgery one year and three months into her weight loss journey since her body was not ready to go through the procedure. However, Megan never strayed from the right track and succeeded in bringing her weight down to 442.8 lbs. Ultimately, she was approved for the surgery and underwent it at the one-year and six-month mark. By the end of two years, Megan weighed 368 lbs, bringing her total weight loss to 237 lbs.
Megan’s Family Had Significantly Reshaped Her Journey
Family has always been a cornerstone of Megan’s journey, offering her unwavering support through the toughest moments. During her weight loss program, she lived with her mother, Donna, who became her big cheerleader and helped her with daily tasks. When Megan expressed how she was struggling with junk food cravings, watching her mother eat them, Donna adopted healthy eating habits just like her daughter’s to support her. From accompanying her to the doctor’s appointments to joining her on everyday walks and trips to the gym, she encouraged Megan every step of the way.
Megan’s bond with her father, Roger, also ran deep from childhood. When her half-sisters, Emily and Ashley, were unkind to her, he became the biggest pillar of unconditional support for her. Their relationship was built around a shared love for good food, which became a bittersweet connection considering how Megan’s struggle with weight began. Despite everything, she was quite upset when illness forced her father into rehab 45 minutes away from her. It limited their visits due to her battle with morbid obesity. When the reality star began losing weight, she went to meet him at the very first chance she got. Megan even bid him a heartfelt goodbye before moving to Houston for her weight loss program. However, she faced a devastating loss when her father passed away in June 2020, shattering her heart into pieces.
Showcasing her love for Roger, Megan even launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to seek help in covering his funeral expenses. She expressed her grief, noting how she had lost her “best friend.” Amid the grave sorrow, Megan found comfort in the presence of her dog, Minnie, whose cuddles and walks brought considerable moments of joy in her life. Beyond family, the reality star maintains an amicable relationship with her close friends and always cherishes the connections that lift her spirits. In 2024, Megan shared photos of a beautiful baby girl who clearly means a great deal to her. Although the nature of their relationship is unclear, it hints at new bonds that continue to reshape her life.
