Memory of a Killer Season 2 Expected Release Date, Plot and Cast

Created by Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, Fox’s ‘Memory of a Killer‘ wraps up its first season with Angelo confronting the Ferryman, AKA Linda Grant, in a fierce climax. Though his double life as an assassin and a family man is paved with numerous sacrifices, in the end, Angelo manages to save his daughter. The death of Linda is juxtaposed with the birth of Angelo’s grandson, and while this calls for celebration, he has a nagging fear that his disease is progressing much faster than he anticipated. However, an even greater worry emerges in the cliffhanger ending, when we learn that Linda sent a file to Maria before her death, containing all the evidence about who Angelo really is. Fox confirmed season 2 of the show in April 2026, and in the best-case scenario, fans can expect the sequel to release sometime between late 2027 and early 2028.

Memory of a Killer Season 2 is Likely to Unravel All of Angelo’s Secrets

With season 1 of ‘Memory of a Killer’ wrapping up the Ferryman saga, the sequel can return its focus to the show’s premise, that being Angelo’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. However, in order to do that, it first has to resolve the cliffhanger of Maria receiving Angelo’s kill list. For the entire season, she has been on the precipice of discovering that her father is a ruthless hitman, and now, with seemingly all the evidence in her hands, the question is whether she will believe it or not. In the scenario that she does, things are pushed even further into the gray, as she might be forced to choose between turning her father in or living in quiet knowledge of his criminal actions.

The finale also gives us a glimpse into just how far the disease has progressed, as Angelo’s unable to recall even Maria’s name at the hospital. Seeing Dutch’s reaction to Michael’s diagnosis, Angelo realizes that his Alzheimer’s poses a very real threat to his life, even if he decides to quit the crime business and pursue a normal life as he once wished to. It appears that Dutch has an inkling that Angelo has a daughter, and while this story thread doesn’t hold much weight by itself, it becomes a lot more grim when a potential Dutch vs. Angelo’s plotline is taken into consideration for the sequel.

Notably, several elements of the show are borrowed from the movie ‘The Alzheimer Case,’ or ‘De zaak Alzheimer,’ which itself is an adaptation of the eponymous book by Jef Geeraerts. In it, the protagonist, Angelo, actively wishes to quit being a hitman, but is roped into a larger mess after he refuses a particular assignment. This, in turn, puts a target on his own head, and he has to simultaneously juggle a survival mission with a steadily accelerating disease. While the larger narrative structure of ‘Memory of a Killer’ doesn’t sync up with this plotline, there is still a chance that things will go into complete chaos. Additionally, Linda’s death means that the FBI is bound to take the case more seriously, and it might just mean that Angelo now has to fight a multi-pronged battle all by himself.

Memory of a Killer Season 2 is Expected to Retain Most of its Existing Cast

Given how the story is progressing, it is likely that season 2 of ‘Memory of a Killer’ will focus on its existing cast of characters and subvert several dynamics. As the show is incomplete without Patrick Dempsey’s iconic portrayal of Angelo Flannery, fans can expect him to reprise the lead role once again. While the same holds true for actor Michael Imperioli, who plays Dutch, it remains to be seen whether the character will remain an ally of Angelo or turn into the next season’s grand antagonist. This also means that Joe might have a much more prominent role going forward, and actor Richard Harmon can be expected to return to the show. Additionally, fans can expect actors Odeya Rush, Peter Gadiot, and Daniel David Stewart to return as Maria, Dave, and Jeff, respectively.

While most of the core cast survives the Ferryman’s wrath, it doesn’t mean that the season is without its share of tragedies. Nicky’s death in the finale means that Michaela McManus is unlikely to return to the show for a sequel. However, we might get more of her daughter, who isn’t shown in season 1, but is likely to be under Angelo’s care from now on. Another major death this season is that of the antagonist, Linda Grant, which means that actor Gina Torres might not return in season 2 either. The same holds true for actors Ian Matthews and Thamela Mpumlwana, whose respective characters, Earl Hancock and Wesley, also meet their end. It remains to be seen whether actor Richard Clarkin will return as Michael Doyle, as the character’s battle with Alzheimer’s might lead to a tragic conclusion off-screen.

Memory of a Killer Season 2 Might Force Maria to Choose Between Dave and Jeff

With every plotline ultimately connecting back to Angelo’s failing memory, it appears that season 2 is set for a watershed moment, where Angelo’s disease will likely reach a point where he cannot hide it. We have already seen a similarly tragic arc unfold in the case of Michael, which means that the creators are unlikely to tread familiar grounds again. Instead, it is more likely that Angelo is prepared to take on even his lifelong friends if it means bringing his family to safety. What remains an unpredictable, but potentially game-changing element, however, is the side Joe might take on in all of this. While it is apparent that he has a much closer relationship with Angelo than with Dutch, a part of this dynamic is also abusive and might make Joe reconsider. His ability to gather intelligence is second to none in this show, and in the worst-case scenario, Angelo might even consider him an enemy.

Another major thread left unresolved is the romantic tension between Maria and Dave. In earlier episodes, Maria comes to a decision which involves rekindling her relationship with Jeff, but at the cost of cutting ties with Dave. What this choice obscures, however, is that she still has strong feelings for Dave, and it might just be a matter of time before she can no longer hold them in. Things get more problematic when we remember that Dave is very close to figuring out Angelo’s real identity. Though he may be keeping quiet for now, we know Angelo is prepared to kill him in the worst-case scenario, which is bound to add more wedges to the show’s already complicated family dynamics.
