Peacock’s ‘Love Island Games’ has always been a place where couples not only compete in challenges but also form meaningful connections. Over the seasons, many love stories have blossomed inside the iconic villa, and season 2 was no exception. Mert Okatan and Solène Favreau were paired together and had just started exploring their connection, trying to see where their relationship might go. Unfortunately, their time together was unexpectedly cut short due to a surprise twist in the elimination, which ended their journey before they could fully develop their bond.
Mert and Solène Quickly Figured Out They Were Not Meant for Each Other
Mert Okatan was one of the first contestants to settle into the villa and make it feel like home. During the first coupling ceremony, he chose to pair up with Lucinda Strafford. Despite the language barrier between them, the two made an effort to communicate and shared several lighthearted and cute moments together. However, the dynamic shifted when Solène Favreau entered the villa as the first bombshell of the season. Solène expressed interest in Mert and ultimately chose to couple up with him, which left Lucinda vulnerable. Lucinda secured her spot in the game by winning a duel.
As Mert and Solène got to know each other, they realized that they weren’t entirely compatible and did not have much of a foundation to build a long-term connection. Both decided to keep their options open and continue talking to other contestants. Mert even had a conversation with Lucinda and let her know he was still interested in her. Before anything further could develop, Mert and Solène were announced as one of the three vulnerable couples up for elimination. They hoped the audience’s votes would keep them safe, but ultimately received the fewest votes, leading to their elimination.
Mert and Solène Are Not Pursuing a Romantic Connection Anymore
While Mert Okatan and Solène Favreau initially believed they might form a strong pair, it soon became clear that their connection wasn’t as deep as they had hoped. Inside the villa, it was evident that they were slowly drifting apart and would have likely chosen to pursue other people had there been a recoupling ceremony. Mert has been open about how he felt the outcome of the surprise elimination was unfair to him and wished he had more time in the villa. He particularly expressed regret about not being able to explore his connection with Lucinda Strafford further.
In his exit interview, Mert said, “I feel really sad because I can’t fake my feelings from my heart. So, I want to say from the bottom of my heart that I really had a great connection with Lucinda, and it was not fair for me to leave now.” He added that he would wait for Lucinda and see where things might go outside the villa, leaving the possibility of something between them open. Solène also shared her thoughts after leaving the villa, expressing that she, too, wished she had more time to explore other potential matches. She said that if she had been given more time, she might have built a meaningful connection with someone else.
For now, however, she has chosen to focus on her own growth and happiness. As she put it, “Sometimes, happiness is not about big decisions, but the small choices we make every day.” Solène’s outlook reflects a desire to take things slowly and prioritize her well-being over rushing into a relationship. At present, Mert and Solène are not together romantically. Both seem to be moving forward in their own ways. Their story may have ended on the show, but it remains to be seen whether new opportunities for love will arise for them outside the villa.
Mert and Solène Are Interested in a Long Career in the Entertainment Industry
Solène Favreau has continued to expand her career in the public eye since leaving. She has appeared on Bravo’s ‘Below Deck’ season 12, working as a stewardess and gaining experience in the yachting industry, where she was relatively new. Outside of television, she works as an influencer and has taken on several beachwear modeling gigs, collaborating with brands to showcase resort and swimwear collections. The French national frequently documents her travels and fashion looks on social media, sharing content from destinations such as Bali, Indonesia, California, and the French Riviera, reflecting her active lifestyle and career in content creation.
Mert Okatan, meanwhile, has transitioned from professional sports to the entertainment industry. He is a former professional soccer player and gained significant recognition after winning the second season of ‘Love Island Nederland & België.’ Since then, he has built a growing presence as a Dutch reality star and public figure. Mert appears to be focused on developing a career in the entertainment industry, taking advantage of opportunities to expand his reach. In addition to reality TV, he has been steadily growing his social media following. He is utilizing his platform to engage fans and enhance his visibility as a rising media personality.
