When Mia Sosa learned that her father, Ramon Sosa, had narrowly escaped being killed in a murder-for-hire plot, she was in shock. She and her father had not spoken for a long time, and the news brought an overwhelming sense of relief. The near-tragedy became a turning point for her, motivating Mia to reconnect with him and rebuild their strained relationship. In CBS’ ‘48 Hours: Coached to Kill,’ Mia opened up about her feelings toward Maria de Lourdes Dorantes, also known as “Lulu,” and reflected on their complicated family dynamics and the impact of the ordeal.
Mia Sosa Lost Contact With Her Father After He Remarried
For Mia Sosa and her brothers, Cristin and Mitchell, their father felt like a celebrity. Even after splitting from their mother in 2000, Ramon Sosa remained very involved in their lives, and to Mia, he was a hero. Known as a prominent boxing figure in Brooklyn, New York, and later in Texas, he carried a strong reputation, something Mia said she admired and enjoyed. She remembered her father as a fun, playful presence who loved to joke and spend time with them. However, things changed in 2007 when Ramon met Maria de Lourdes Dorantes, also known as “Lulu.” Mia recalled that Lulu never tried to connect with them as a stepmother and was never particularly warm toward them.
Mia shared that whatever attraction her father saw in Lulu at the time was something she never understood, and gradually, it created distance between her and her father. When she learned in 2009 that he was going to marry Lulu, Mia described the news as “heartbreaking,” and she, along with her siblings, chose not to attend the wedding. Over the years, her contact with her father faded, and they barely spoke until July 23, 2015, after Lulu’s arrest. That day, Ramon told Mia everything that had happened. She broke down in tears, unable to believe what she was hearing, but overwhelmingly grateful that her father was still alive.
