Competitive dance for kids and tweens is an intense world that is high-pressure, fast-paced, and filled with extraordinary young talent pushing the boundaries of performance. This high-stakes world is at the heart of Hulu’s ‘Dance Moms: A New Era.’ In Season 2, newcomer Miah von Grolman entered the competition scene alongside her mother, Tingting von Grolman, who supported her through every rehearsal and emotionally charged week. Joining the established team for a grueling season of high-level contests, Miah pushed herself to match and exceed expectations. It wasn’t long before she stood out, quickly becoming one of the group’s star performers.
Miah and Tingting Focused on Having Fun During the Competitions as Well
Miah von Grolman’s entry into the Project X Dance Company for the season was far from smooth. She joined the same studio that her co-star, Gina Zhang, had been part of before leaving in 2023. Naturally, Miah and her mother, Tingting von Grolman, expected Gina’s mother, Jing Qu, to support their entry, but Gina was not as welcoming. She openly questioned whether it was fair for a 10-year-old like Miah to join so easily when other dancers had faced tougher competition. Tensions among the moms escalated even more when instructor Glo Hampton announced that Miah would lead the first group dance of the regional season.

They felt that the honor that many felt should have gone to a returning team member. But it took only one performance for Miah to silence the doubts. She proved herself a serious, highly skilled dancer with the technique and stage presence to match the group’s best. Over the season, Miah earned multiple solos, many of which she won, taking first place at several regional competitions. Even when she faced setbacks, like forgetting her choreography during the ballet challenge, Tingting encouraged her to regroup, return to the stage, and finish strong.
Tingting often said she didn’t believe in strict or harsh parenting and instead, she chose a gentler path than the one she grew up with. What was even more fun to watch was Miah having fun and goofing around and Tingting not taking her wins or losses as a defining moment. Miah earned a solo at the national finals, where she secured a top placement, which made her team proud and made it very unlikely that she would not be welcome for the next season.
Miah von Grolman is Continuing With Glo Hampton’s Dance Company Today
Miah von Grolman has built her place within the Project X Dance Company under the guidance of Glo Hampton and has continued her rigorous training alongside her teammates. Her rise began in 2021, when she first captured attention by earning third place in the 8-and-under novice division at the Imagine National Dance Challenge. From that early milestone onward, she entered a phase of constant competitions, showcases, and opportunities that shaped her into one of the most promising young dancers on the scene. Over the following years, Miah competed throughout Ashburn, Virginia, becoming part of several elite regional lineups and collecting titles that highlighted not only her technical skill but also her growing versatility.
By 2024, she was already expanding her artistic horizons. She was selected for the Summer Mentorship Program with Jake McGrath, an experience that deepened her understanding of contemporary movement and performance artistry. She also served as an Are You Ready to Dance 2024 Ambassador, representing young dancers with enthusiasm and grace. In 2025, Miah’s journey accelerated even further. She began the year competing in her solo for Mini Best Dancer at The Dance Awards in July, a major achievement for someone her age. Soon after, she earned the prestigious title of National Miss Junior Starpower at the Starpower Nationals in June 2025. August brought another milestone with her first-ever Ballet Summer Intensive at the Ducon School, where she trained under esteemed instructor Runqiao Du and worked on her classical foundation.
Fall 2025 marked a whirlwind of industry experiences. In October, Miah traveled to Los Angeles and had a memorable encounter with JoJo Siwa, who had always been a source of inspiration and motivation for her. That same month, she performed at the Gala of the Stars and attended the Industry Dance Awards, where she joined the DAC ICONS 2025, supporting Dancers Against Cancer. In November 2025, she kicked off the competitive season with her first Wild Dance Intensive convention. Alongside competition success, Miah has also stepped into professional work. She modeled the “Von” set in the Renaissance Collection by J Dance Swear. After a summer spent visiting Japan and China and celebrating her 11th birthday in May 2025, she continues to thrive as she grows into a bright young figure in the dance world.
Tingting von Grolman Always Champions and Celebrates Her Daughter
Tingting von Grolman prefers to keep a low profile, but her husband, Elmar von Grolman, has always been by her side and supported her in every decision she makes. With his German ancestry, Elmar enjoys teaching Miah about her cultural roots and has inculcated such conversations into her upbringing. The family also has another younger daughter, whom they intentionally keep away from the spotlight to give her a quieter, more private childhood. As Miah’s dance career grows, Tingting has slowly begun adjusting to life in the public eye. Though naturally reserved, she has stepped into the limelight when needed and most recently appeared at the Gala of the Stars in October 2025. Even so, Tingting remains present primarily as Miah’s mother and steady support, ensuring her daughter’s world stays grounded and balanced.
