Where is Michael Blair Now? Update on My 600 Lb Life Star

Michael Blair was first introduced to the viewers in season 9, episode 9 of TLC’s ‘My 600-lb Life.’ When Michael appeared on the show, he was already 609 lbs and facing the devastating consequences of morbid obesity. Even standing for extended periods was a struggle for him, and he became increasingly dependent on his wife. From just the age of 11, he carried emotional wounds, which shattered his self-esteem. In the aftermath of a traumatic experience, food became his defense mechanism. Although he lost some weight during college, the situation changed after his marriage. Michael and his wife gradually slipped into unhealthy eating habits. They had been approved for weight loss surgery, but a severe car accident sidelined Michael’s progress as it resulted in scar tissue in his abdomen.

Being left with physical and emotional pain, Michael turned to food for comfort and felt trapped within himself. He soon realized the gravity of the situation and sought assistance from Dr. Nowzaradan. Alongside a strict diet and exercise routine, the doctor recommended therapy to help Michael work through his traumatic past. However, Michael’s weight loss journey was filled with hurdles, particularly due to a hernia. Additionally, the scar tissue significantly increased the surgical risk. He discovered that in order to be approved for hernia repair and to have some of the scar tissue removed during the same procedure, he needed to lose nearly 150 lbs. By month 11, he had reached a major milestone, bringing his weight down to 474 lbs. Dr. Nowzaradan finally approved Michael’s hernia surgery and informed him that it could be scheduled in three months, provided he had lost an additional 30 lbs.

Michael Took up a Passion in Martial Arts That Proved to be Transformative

Michael Blair’s professional journey is inspirational, just like his personal transformation. After finishing high school, he started pursuing higher education in college. However, the reality star felt that his confidence was at an all-time low during that time. His life began to head in a positive direction when he landed a job as a bouncer at a local bar. The role unexpectedly sparked something new in him, and he felt a sense of purpose for the first time. Combining it with his newfound confidence, Michael finally took a bold step and began training in martial arts. His curiosity quickly turned into a passion, and he began intense training, dedicating about 4 to 5 days a week.

Sometimes, the sessions would continue for 6 to 7 hours a day. During this time, Michael lost about 120 lbs, bringing his weight down to 380 by the age of 25. Things really started to look up after his marriage when both he and his wife were approved for a weight loss surgery. However, a devastating car accident derailed Michael’s progress and stood as a barrier in his path of transformation. This ultimately pushed him back into his old unhealthy habits. Although the emotional heaviness returned along with obesity, he started to take charge of his life. After months of emotional and physical dedication toward his weight loss, the Conroe, Texas native finally became ready to set foot in the professional world again.

Michael’s Family Became the Driving Force Behind His Weight Loss Journey

Michael’s journey to reclaim his life actually began with love. It was the adoration he has for his wife, Kimberly, and their two sons – Xander and Liam, that lit the spark of transformation within him. Michael and Kimberley met through a mutual friend during a live-action role-playing game, and for both of them, it was love at first sight. Just a year after they met, they welcomed their first son, Xander, into the world. However, darker times soon arrived with the accident that sent Michael into a spiral of depression. However, Kimberly stood beside him as the pillar of support, and their bond only grew stronger in his darkest times.

Soon after, they welcomed their second son, Liam, bringing even more purpose to Michael’s life. Throughout his weight loss journey, his family gave him the courage to believe in himself. Whether it was cooking healthy meals together or encouraging him during the toughest days, Kimberly never wavered from his side. Her words of love and encouragement are quite evident in her declarations, like “I am soo proud of Michael and everything he has gone though.” In July 2022, Kimberly and Michael made cherishable memories together at the Downtown Aquarium in Houston during their adventurous road trip.

In October of the same year, Michael and Kimberley visited W.G. Jones State Forest and spent quality time together, immersed in nature alongside their son, Liam.  No matter how busy their life gets, the duo always ensures to shower each other with love and attention. Whether it be breakfast dates or discovering new cafes and restaurants, they nurture the relationship like the first day. As of writing, Michael has continued to live a healthier and more active lifestyle and has embraced a new chapter filled with travel and the little joys of life. His journey is a powerful reminder that one’s affection and love for their loved ones can be the greatest motivators to bring unmatched change in a person.
