Michaela Wegner and Tony Holt Jr. Were Found With Gunshot Wounds in the Wegner Home

Born around 1990, Michaela Wegner was the beloved daughter of Lorijane Graham, who was raising her with Richard Graham, Michaela’s stepfather. Nicknamed Kaela, she attended Broad Run High School, where she was known for her bubbly personality. The 15-year-old sophomore student also baked cookies for her classmates and extended her gratitude towards her teachers. Michaela was also a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. In the summer of 2004, she began dating her senior at the school, Harold Anthony “Tony” Holt Jr. Born to Anthony Sr. and Sharon Holt, the 2004 high school graduate was a Dallas Cowboys fan and a popular basketball player. Besides being a friendly guy, he was also ambitious, with dreams of having a successful career in computer drafting after graduating from ITT Technical Institute.

Tony also shared a close-knit bond with his younger sister, Grace. Michaela and Tony lived about two miles apart in South Riding, Virginia. They had a bright future ahead of them, but all of their dreams were shattered on January 3, 2005. When the authorities rushed to Michaela’s family home on Iverson Drive after receiving a 911 call, they found 15-year-old Michaela and 19-year-old Tony in critical condition with gunshot wounds on the backyard deck of the property. Both were rushed to separate hospitals — Michaela to Fair Oaks Hospital and Tony to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Later, they were pronounced dead as they succumbed to their gunshot injuries. The autopsy revealed that they died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the detectives determined that the firearm they recovered at the scene belonged to Tony’s father, Anthony Sr. They also found two notes at the scene, which revealed their love for each other and their desire to be together despite their parents’ disapproval of the relationship. While authorities initially investigated the exact sequence of events, notes found at the scene led them to conclude that the teens had entered into a suicide pact. According to the notes, the teenagers reportedly believed they could not be together because their parents disapproved of the age difference.
