Season 10 episode 4 of TLC’s ‘My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now?’ introduced the continuation of Mike Meginness’ weight loss journey. In the beginning, even the simplest tasks, like getting out of bed, seemed overwhelming to him. His life changed traumatically after he stopped playing football at college due to two concussions. Mike fell into a deep depression, and he began using food as a coping mechanism to fill the void. However, his weight began to rise alarmingly, and even his wife ended up leaving him behind. Additionally, he was stressed about ensuring he had partial custody of his children. However, he eventually decided to take his life’s reins into his own hands and sought professional help.
Mike Meginness’ Transformative Journey Was Packed With Hurdles
When Mike Meginness first appeared on the show, he weighed 745.7 lbs. Initially, Dr. Nowzaradan gave him a clear goal to lose a hundred pounds within two months. He further insisted that he move to Houston for the program. However, it was not an option for Mike since it could jeopardize his children’s custody. Despite the distance, he committed to changing his life and began exercising and dieting. Seven months later, Mike succeeded in bringing down his weight to 642.8 lbs. Although he received approval for his weight loss surgery, he faced a familiar hurdle. His relocation to Houston would impact his custody arrangement. During this time, Dr. Nowzaradan gave him the alternative of moving to the city for two months. It was long enough for Mike to have the surgery and recover under medical supervision.
A month and a half later, Mike moved to the city and ultimately underwent the operation. After two months, he returned to Ohio and resumed his exercise and diet plan. By the end of one year, his weight dropped to 510 lbs. The reality star completely transformed his life one year and five months into his journey. However, it came with a few setbacks as he discontinued his therapy and weight loss program. Two months later, Mike reconnected with Dr Nowzaradan virtually. At that point, his weight was down to 473.2 lbs. By the end of one year and nine months, he once again stepped away and chose to continue his progress on his own terms. By the end, Mike had continued to stay on the right track and was preparing to lose weight to get his skin removal surgery.
