Season 1 of ‘Million-Follower Detective’ ends with a conclusive climax, where mysteries have been solved, lives have been saved, and amends between characters have been made. The world learns the truth about Baba Witch and her hoaxy psychic crusade against a group of influencers, while another dark secret about internal corruption in the police force also comes to light. The real killer behind the murders, and his secret collaborator, both meet their demises as Chen Chia-jen manages to rescue his daughter and save the lives of Ting-yu and Wei-ten.
The wild ride also brings the estranged father-daughter duo back into each other’s orbits, allowing them to find a new beginning on much steadier ground. Still, the satisfactory ending only makes the future of Chia-jen and Hsin-ping’s adventures as partners all the more intriguing. At the time of writing, there have been no updates about the possibility of a second season for the Mandarin series. Yet, if Netflix greenlights a season 2 soon enough, the show can return to the screen as early as 2028.
Million-Follower Detective Season 2 Can Revolve Around a New Case For Chia-jen
‘Million-Follower Detective’ season 1 primarily revolves around the police investigation undertaken by Chia-jen, which coincidentally ends up involving high stakes from his own personal life. Therefore, even though Baba Witch and the mastermind behind her predictions remain at the nucleus of the central killings, the detective helms the narrative as the protagonist. Consequently, even after the death of the killer, Ta-fu and his shadowy collaborator, Chen-wei, the show can move forward with the noble detective at its center. Season 2 can find a brand new mystery for the law enforcement officer to unravel.
Given the nature of the series, it seems safe to assume his crime might remain centered on the themes of influencer and internet culture, without foraying completely into the world of cybercrimes. Additionally, fans might learn more about Chia-jen’s past, beyond his complicated relationship with his daughter, You-jei. Season 1 makes allusions to his past as a veteran police officer who has been in the force for a long time. As such, it’s possible that some aspect of his past will come back to haunt his narrative in the future. On the other hand, the progression of his relationship with You-jei and how the father-daughter duo navigates the process of fixing their relationship could also become a foundational theme in the potential continuation.
Million-Follower Detective Season 2 Will Likely Introduce New Cast Members Into the Fold
The cast of ‘Million-Follower Detective’ season 1 greatly informs the identity of the show through an amalgamation of intriguing characters, ranging from influencers, law enforcement officers, and criminals. Yet, given the nature of the crime-thriller genre, it’s unlikely that the entire cast would be returning for a potential season 2. Since Ta-fu and Chen-wei’s deaths more or less confirm that a new season will have to focus on a different criminal case, new faces are bound to join the series. This means fans can expect to see some new and unpredictable characters for the show’s second season.
However, many familiar faces can still be expected to reprise their roles. Off-the-bat, if the show decides to keep Chia-jen and Hsin-ping at the center of the narrative, then lead actors Ekin Cheng and Patty Pei-Yu Lee will step back into their roles. Likewise, others from the police station, like A-Hua (Ying-Hsuan Kao) and Chang Jie (Yung-Cheng Chang), might make a comeback. Additionally, Chia-jen’s daughter, You-jei (Buffy Chen), is also bound to remain a recurring character if the show continues centering around the development of her and her father’s relationship. Lastly, despite the resolution of his character, Ting-Yu Lin’s case, actor Jun-Shuo Lou might also reprise his role in some capacity.
Million-Follower Detective Season 2 Might Track the Progression of Hsin-ping’s Career
Chia-jen’s partnership with Hsin-ping, an officer from the High Technology Crime Unit, contributes greatly to his ability to solve this internet-centric crime. Yet, season 1 also takes the time to flesh out the latter’s character, allowing her to have her own solo storylines that inform the course of her characterization. For one, we learn about her past, wherein she was too late to save a victim of domestic abuse and kidnapping. This experience directly informs her future decision to join the High Technology Crime Unit to ensure that she can actually help people and save lives.
Throughout the first season, Hsin-ping continuously puts her job on the line to do just that. In the end, all of Hsin-ping’s risks end up paying off as her hunches are proven right and the killers are caught in time. Therefore, big things seem to be lined up for her career’s future. Thus, if she remains a co-lead in the show beside Chia-jen, season 2 might highlight her own professional career. With Chen-wei and his corruption gone, Hsin-ping has a real shot at progressing in her line of work. It’s likely that she will continue to center domestic abuse cases in her work to ensure that she achieves the goals of making a real difference in the world.
