NBC’s ‘Dateline: Who Killed Mindy Morgenstern?’ chronicles the murder case of Mindy Jo Morgenstern, who was brutally killed by one of her neighbors, Moe Gibbs, in her off-campus apartment in North Dakota. When the news of her demise broke out, it shook the entire community to its core while leaving her family devastated and heartbroken. She was one of the adopted children of Larry and Eunice Morgenstern, alongside April and Michael Morgenstern. Her eldest sister, Rebecca Young, was also deeply affected by the tragedy. During Moe Gibbs’ trial, Eunice was the only one who took the stand and addressed him. She testified that she had forgiven him for taking away her daughter from her, but claimed that she would never forget it. She also sympathised with the killer’s family and children at the same time.
Eunice and Larry Morgenstern Continue to be Each Other’s Support System
After Eunice and Larry Morgenstern lost their daughter, Mindy Morgenstern, Eunice turned to writing as a way to deal with her grief and celebrate Mindy’s life. She admitted that in the process of writing, she found a way to forgive her killer for taking away the life of her beloved daughter. She told KXNews, “At first, there was a lot of bitterness, but I was able to call on God and find forgiveness and healing for my heart. Spilling the words out on paper really helped this.”
Several years of interviews with Mindy’s loved ones and collecting news articles later, Eunice was able to complete her book titled ‘Mindy,’ which was published in 2019. She was supported in her endeavor by her husband, Larry, and helped immensely by her daughter, April. Eunice also received help from Mindy’s former English teacher, Jodi Davis, when it came to putting the book together. From what we can tell, Eunice and Larry continue to lead a happily married life on their farm, located northeast of New Salem, North Dakota. As their children have built families of their own, they have also become proud and doting grandparents.
