OWN Orders Mistletoe and Matrimony; Starts Filming in Hamilton Next Month

OWN has started to prepare for this year’s Christmas! The network has greenlit a holiday TV movie titled ‘Mistletoe and Matrimony.’ The television film’s shooting will start in Hamilton, Ontario, on the 10th of next month. The plot revolves around a wedding planner whose sister requests her assistance in organizing their Christmas Eve wedding within a mere two weeks, leaving her feeling overwhelmed. Matters escalate when her ex unexpectedly reenters the picture. The cast and crew of the project are currently under wraps.

OWN had a noteworthy line-up of TV movies for last year’s holidays. The productions that premiered include ‘The Christmas Detective,’ helmed by director Winnifred Jong and featuring Javicia Leslie and Brad James. The plot centers on Kate Bennett, a former pageant contestant navigating her career shift into becoming a private investigator. When a local art gallery faces a theft on the brink of its grand opening, Kate joins forces with police detective Derek “Oak” Oakley to crack the case before Christmas arrives, aiming to validate her capabilities once and for all.

OWN’s previous holiday movie slate also included ‘Christmas of Yes,’ directed by Rhonda Baraka with a script by Gabrielle Meyer, starring Michele Weaver and Jeff Pierre. The plot follows a woman who is overly dedicated to her work and never has time for anything else. When she unexpectedly loses her job at Christmas, her free-spirited brother challenges her to start saying “yes” to things she previously declined.

‘Christmas Revisited,’ directed by Winnifred Jong, also premiered last holiday season. The television film follows a group of college friends, now in their 30s, who reunite over Christmas at a remote mountain cabin to honor their recently deceased friend. They aim to rekindle their former bond, but old secrets and resentments resurface, revealing deeper estrangement than they had realized. The question remains whether the memory of their friend and the Christmas spirit will mend their relationships in time for a joyful holiday. The TV movie stars Tanyell Waivers and Jaime M. Callica.

Hamilton is a go-to filming destination for Christmas projects. Some of the popular productions shot in the region include ‘How to Fall in Love by Christmas,’ ‘Take Me Back for Christmas,’ and ‘Catch a Christmas Star.’ Other notable projects filmed in the city include ‘The Big Cigar’ and ‘BlackBerry.’
