For over a decade, Mitch Guerra chased a dream that always seemed out of reach. Every year, he would apply to be one of the contestants on CBS’ ‘Survivor.’ Although he received several calls, he was always ghosted soon after. This nearly led him to give up, but he took on new adventures instead of quitting. However, Mitch’s big moment finally arrived on season 48. He was at peak physical condition, but he did experience a hard life due to his struggle with speech impairment. He turned this to fuel his motivation and resilience, ultimately becoming one of the five finalists.
Mitch Guerra is Creating a Profound Impact as a Coach and Teacher
Before Mitch Guerra became a ‘Survivor 48’ finalist, he began a journey marked with commitment to service and personal growth. His academic path began in 2010 at Texas A&M University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and Psychology. After graduating in 2014, he was drawn to mentorship and community impact. Hence, Mitch took the next step by enrolling in the Master of Arts in Youth Ministry program at Dallas Baptist University in 2015 and graduated in 2017. However, he had begun his professional career long before that in June 2007 by becoming a Tennis Coach at Future’s Tennis.
By May 2010, Mitch also took on the role of a Tennis Instructor at the Ridgewood Country Club. However, he left both of these positions in August of the same year and moved on to become a Camp Counselor at Sky Ranch in 2012. Over the next two years, he helped shape younger lives while honing his leadership skills simultaneously. Similarly, he also joined Chick-fil-A in September 2013 and worked as a Team Member there until May 2014. This proved to be a major turning point since Mitch returned to Sky Ranch in the following August as a Legacy Fellow. Over the years, he climbed the ranks within the organization.
Mitch took on increasingly impactful roles starting from a Master’s program – Outdoor Education Instructor, to Summer Camp Administration Specialist (Seasonal), and eventually Student Development Coordinator by August 2017. Side-by-side, he continued his academic pursuit. Ultimately, in August 2018, Mitch stepped away from Sky Ranch to forge a new career path. In October 2020, he returned to his athletic roots as a Tennis Coach, a role he still holds today. Simultaneously, the pandemic also opened another unexpected door for him. What began as a part-time teaching job for him quickly evolved into a full-time role as a Physical Education Teacher.
Mitch Combines His Advocacy and Athleticism to Grow Social Media Presence
Beyond his coaching profession, Mitch has created a powerful presence on social media. He boasts over 20K followers on Instagram and uses the platform to share his fitness journey and his life’s mission. It is none other than his lifelong experience with a speech impediment. It had been the very thing that once made him feel different and gave him a tough childhood. However, this only drove Mitch to be more empathetic and driven towards his purpose. It has also allowed him to connect to a community of people who have long felt unheard. He uses his voice on social media, in classrooms, and on podcasts to advocate for these individuals. Hence, Mitch has become a motivational speaker and a proud representative for the community.
Mitch appeared for an interview on the ‘Project Endure Podcast’ in May 2023, speaking about his life of perseverance. His advocacy has also led him to be featured in an interview with the Stuttering Foundation. In April 2025, he proudly shared with his fans that he would attend the National Stuttering Association (NSA) annual conference in Denver. Just a month later, he further announced that he would also be speaking at the Disability: IN Global Conference and Expo, where he will discuss his life journey through his lens of resilience. In parallel to this, Mitch continues to push his physical boundaries. In 2023, he joined the Waco Sports Commission as part of his Ironman journey. Not only has he run marathons, but he has even participated in the BCS Classic not once, but in August 2022, 2023, and 2024.
In October 2024, Mitch participated in the Ironman Waco 70.3 relay, crushing the half-marathon portion. He even finished the relay in the 17th position among the competing teams. In February 2025, he proudly completed the Austin Half Marathon, finishing 13.1 miles with impressive determination. Mitch’s social media platform has also attracted several notable brand partnerships, including LSKD, Asé Pure Naturals, and PWRLIFT. It has allowed him to blend his fitness lifestyle with a zeal for empowerment. Additionally, in April 2025, Mitch was featured on the podcasts ‘Purple Pants’ and ‘Rob Has a Podcast,’ which highlighted his incredible gameplay on the show.
Mitch Always Holds the Love For His Mother Close to His Heart
Behind his incredible career, Mitch is a grounded man whose heart belongs to the people who shaped him, especially his mother. He has never been shy about the special bond he shares with her and considers her one of his biggest supporters. On her birthday, he penned down a heartfelt message for her, reading, “As you read this, I ask everyone to join me in praying for an amazing year ahead for my Sweet Mom! I owe all my best qualities to her. She’s taught me to love others deeply, extend unending grace, and persevere through the toughest moments.” Although Mitch chooses to keep other aspects of his personal life under wraps, we do know that his friendships are a source of life and joy in his life.
Whether it be traveling with his friends to beautiful beaches and rivers during summertime or even going for group dinners together, Mitch always makes it a priority to cherish the friendships that matter most. Additionally, the reality star is quite cautious about maintaining his physical and mental well-being. Mitch always ensures that he hits the gym, whether it be alone or alongside his friends. Aside from this, he loves playing friendly volleyball and even tennis games. Above all, Mitch maintains an amicable bond with his former competitors from the show. The foundation of these relationships is built on their shared unique experience.
