‘Dhurandhar The Revenge’ is an Indian Hindi-language crime action drama that centers on Hamza Ali Mazari, whose true identity is revealed to be Jaskirat Singh Rangi, an Indian R&AW agent with a special mission to infiltrate the very core of terrorism in Pakistan. The narrative picks up after the events of ‘Dhurandhar,’ and follows the convergence of Hamza’s former identity, Jaskirat, with his mission to dominate the Lyari gang wars. With Rehman Dakait’s death, a power vacuum opens in Lyari’s volatile streets. Ajay Sanyal of the R&AW, Hamza’s boss, sets his sights on larger targets in Pakistan.
He considers it essential that Hamza seize control of Lyari and become the dominant force in the Pakistani criminal underworld. With the fate of several lives at stake, Hamza’s actions may have consequences beyond his imagination. In this journey, Mohammed Aalam, the humble juice shop owner from Lyari, serves a crucial purpose in the shadows of conflict. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Mohammed Aalam’s Supreme Sacrifice Enables Hamza Ali Mazari to Continue His War on Terrorism
In ‘Dhurandhar The Revenge,’ Mohammed Aalam continues his saga as an unassuming man in the streets of Lyari. In secret, he works as Hamza’s handler, supplying him with critical information. Aalam also coordinates with R&AW to ensure that Hamza’s mission goes without a hitch. Though Aalam is a fictional character, his actions are grounded and human. Aalam listens to Hamza’s tragic backstory and offers him comfort with words of wisdom. Aalam’s actions reflect the struggles of spies embedded in enemy countries and the sacrifices that situations demand of them. As the narrative gains momentum, it reaches a point of no return when Hamza’s true identity is at risk of being exposed. Pinda, one of Hamza’s friends from India, becomes a separatist and secretly flies to Pakistan to make a deal with Major Iqbal of the ISI.
Hamza is shocked to see this and tries to somehow stay away from Pinda, hoping to save himself from being exposed to the Pakistanis. But Pinda eventually recognizes Hamza as his friend Jaskirat, and confronts him in an isolated place. In the physical altercation that follows, Pinda dies accidentally. To save Hamza from this ordeal and to keep his identity secret for longer, Aalam makes a courageous decision. He pretends to be Pinda’s killer and saves Hamza from exposure. In a painful moment, Hamza guns down Aalam in front of the Pakistanis and labels him a traitor and an Indian agent. Thus, Aalam lays down his life for greater national interests. The juice shop owner’s actions reflect the tragic consequences of being part of the world of spies. His life ends without public recognition.
Like Aalam, there could be several other spies in remote corners of the world who sacrifice their lives for the sake of their countries. Since there is no credible evidence to prove that an Indian agent named Aalam exists in the real world, it is likely that his character arc is imaginary. The narrative humanizes Aalam and does not utilize his character for shock value. His personality, appearance, and communication skills make him appear real. Through his experiences, the movie conveys deeper messages about the tricks and trade of the spy world.
