Morgan Freeman and Michael Keaton will be joining forces for the first time in 38 years for the Western thriller feature film ‘Rode to Ruin.’ The last movie they worked on is Glenn Gordon Caron’s ‘Clean and Sober,’ which came out in 1988. Keaton will also direct ‘Rode to Ruin.’ Filming will take place between September 22 and November 26 this year across Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Montana. R. Dean McCreary wrote the story.
Keaton will portray retired Marshal Henry Tillman, and Freeman is a wanted outlaw named Joseph Mulberry. The U.S. Marshal searched for forty years for his wife’s killer, and the cold trail finally heats up and leads him to an aging outlaw losing his memory- and to a buried truth neither man may survive.
Morgan Freeman’s last feature film role was as grandmaster Thaddeus Bradley in ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.’ Before that, he did ‘Gunner,’ co-starring Luke Hemsworth, and the war comedy drama ‘My Dead Friend Zoe,’ also featuring Ed Harris, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Natalie Morales. We can currently watch him in Season 3 of Paramount+’s ‘Lioness,’ as U.S. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins.
Michael Keaton recently played an incarcerated serial killer named Frank Carter in the Netflix crime thriller feature ‘The Whisper Man.’ Directed by James Ashcroft, the movie is about a detective (Michelle Monaghan) who teams up with a former detective (Robert De Niro) to investigate a string of murders and disappearances, the latest one being the disappearance of Tom Kennedy’s (Adam Scott) son. The MO resembles that of a killer currently serving life in prison. Right before ‘The Whisper Man,’ Keaton starred in the comedy movie ‘Goodrich,’ directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, about a man whose life is upended when his wife enters a rehab program, leaving him solo with their young kids. We will next see the actor in Season 2 of Apple TV+’s ‘The Studio.’ ‘Rode To Ruin’ is Keaton’s third directorial feature after ‘The Merry Gentleman’ and ‘Knox Goes Away.’
