Do Caitlyn and Curtis End Up Together in Motorheads?

Prime Video’s ‘Motorheads‘ centers on a group of teenagers in the town of Ironwood, Pennsylvania, whose shared love for street racing brings them closer together. While the show primarily deals with the excitement of building race cars and competing against rival high schoolers, it also delves into the prospect of romantic relationships. One such prominent bond discussed within the series is Caitlyn and Curtis’ complex bond. While they share a great deal of chemistry with one another from the beginning, they constantly have to tiptoe around the other because of repeated miscommunication and misunderstandings. To that end, the fate of their relationship is a burning question posed throughout the inaugural season. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Caitlyn and Curtis are Roadblocked By Their Fathers’ Pasts

After going through several ups and downs, Caitlyn and Curtis seemingly find a way to bridge their gap at the end of season 1. After completing the work on her father’s car, Caitlyn has the chance to openly admit her feelings for Curtis and clear the air between them. She kisses him at the Ironwood Commons, a small structure overlooking the nearby lake. The kiss signifies that they have finally moved past their issues and are willing to make their relationship into something more concrete. However, Curtis feels guilty about it because of his father’s role in Christian Maddox’s disappearance. He tells Caitlyn that she “grew up without a dad because of his dad.” Curtis’ father was the one who organized the bank heist, which brought Christian into his orbit, thereby leading to his vanishing.

The revelation catches Caitlyn off-guard, who looks into the distance with a conflicted expression on her face. It is a painful moment for the relationship between her and Curtis, showcasing that they are both close and far at the same time. In some ways, had Curtis kept the information to himself, he and Caitlyn could forge ahead with their relationship. However, he cares too much about her to omit a fact of such magnitude, especially when she seems so smitten by him. It also plays into the fact that maybe Curtis does not consider himself fit enough to date her due to some misguided sense of self-worth. Or the truth about his father’s past haunts him and creates too much of a rift for him to date Caitlyn with a clear conscience. Undoubtedly, this will play a significant role moving into season 2.

Caitlyn Cares About Her Father More Than Anyone

It is evident from the start that Caitlyn’s obsession with her father goes beyond her brother’s own desire to reunite with him. She is desperate to find out what happened to Christian, even going to extreme lengths to forge a symbolic connection with him. For instance, repairing her dad’s old car is just another way for her to feel in touch with Christian’s spirit, which she has yearned to be close to her whole life. Despite never getting the chance to spend time with her father, he plays the biggest role in driving her actions and providing her with the necessary agency to move ahead. To that end, it is highly plausible that she may put her relationship with Curtis on the back burner, especially now that she knows Curtis’ dad is the reason she was deprived of childhood without her father.

While Curtis’ reasons for telling Caitlyn the truth may have been born out of good intentions, neither person likely knows the full extent of what actually transpired during the bank heist. Therefore, they might be assuming and presuming too much before the full facts are laid down before them. As a result, a relationship between the two characters may be still on the cards, even though they have a lot to work through. They first have to sort out their life priorities and also focus on the things that matter most. However, considering what we know at the end of season 1, the second season will likely show the two characters engulfed in more complicated drama as they try to figure out what they mean to one another and if a relationship is worth pursuing.

Curtis and Caitlyn Have Other Admirers Besides Themselves

Another perceived roadblock that might manifest itself in Caitlyn and Curtis’ relationship is the other characters who have a crush on them. By the end of season 1, we know that Curtis is in a relationship with Brooke, who makes a move on him after realizing that Harris is simply playing with her emotions. The two get involved much deeper than Caitlyn expects at the start, breeding a sense of envy and jealousy within her. At the same time, Caitlyn herself has an admirer in the shape of Kiara, the high school girl who acts as her tour guide on her first day of school. Kiara even breaks up with her boyfriend, Noah, in the final parts of the season, committing to her newfound attraction for Caitlyn. As such, she may have a part to play in proceedings moving forward.

Intriguingly, the kiss between Curtis and Caitlyn has ramifications on the duo’s relationship with Brooke and Kiara, respectively. After the tender moment, Curtis shows up at Wade’s Diner to tell Brooke that he is not ready to move to New York with her, which was their plan as a couple. Brooke correctly guesses that his decision has something to do with Caitlyn. At the same time, Kiara witnesses Curtis and Caitlyn locking lips at the Ironwood Commons, a moment that is sure to be seared into her brain. It will be interesting to see how she plays her cards in the second season because it is possible that she will start dating Caitlyn based on the new rift that has been created between the latter and Curtis. There is a lot of ground to play in the second installation, meaning the turbulent ride may be far from over for Curtis and Caitlyn.
