Investigation Discovery’s ‘Hollywood Demons: Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!’ delves deep into the dark truths about the controversial ‘The Jerry Springer Show,” including instances of lies, abuse, molestation, violent fights, and even death. One of the gruesome cases that the documentary focuses on is the death of Nancy Campbell-Panitz in Sarasota, Florida, in the summer of 2000. Just a couple of months after appearing on the talk show, Nancy met her demise, raising questions about the impact of ‘The Jerry Springer Show.” As the detectives delved deeper into the case, they uncovered a disturbing and shocking truth.
Nancy Campbell-Panitz Was Strangled to Death in Her Florida Home

Born in 1948, Nancy Campbell-Panitz was a Martin High School graduate. In the 1990s, she crossed paths with Ralf Panitz online. As sparks flew between them, they began dating for a while before deciding to make their relationship official in the eyes of the law. Thus, in 1997, the two tied the knot and began a new chapter of their lives. However, by then, Nancy already had two sons, Jeffrey and Gary Campbell, from a previous relationship. Unfortunately, her life came to an abrupt end on July 24, 2000. On the fateful evening, the Sarasota, Florida, resident was found brutally murdered in her home by the authorities. The medical examiner determined that Nancy had been strangled to death. Thus, the police immediately launched a homicide investigation.
Nancy Campbell-Panitz’s Killer Had Multiple Domestic Violence Allegations Against Him
As part of the investigation, the detectives delved deeper into the life of Nancy Campbell-Panitz and the circumstances surrounding her sudden demise. They learned that she had allegedly been on the receiving end of violence at the hands of her husband, Ralf Panitz, because of which they ended their marriage in 1999. Despite the divorce, they reportedly lived together on and off, while Ralf secretly married Eleanor Isaac in March 2000. A couple of months later, in May 2000, Nancy was invited to feature on ‘The Jerry Springer Show’ with Ralf Panitz. However, she was shocked when he revealed that he was married to Eleanor, who also appeared on the show. Eleanor and Ralf teamed up and told Nancy to stop bothering and stalking them.

According to Nancy’s attorney, “What Nancy had told me was, she was going to be told that Eleanor was out of the picture and that her and Ralf were going to reconcile, which is not what happened.” In the following weeks and months, Nancy and the Panitzes filed a series of domestic violence allegations against each other. According to court documents, Nancy had filed a restraining order in 1998 and 1999 as Ralf had threatened to hurt and kill her in multiple instances. At the time of her murder, Nancy had been living on the street in her car, while Ralf and Eleanor lived in her home. On the morning of July 24, 2000, she had a hearing against her former husband.

She stated, “He’s frequently violent…he had chased me with a knife and made threats about taking my life, ending my life, the way he was going to torture me. He spent a couple of hours, telling me how he would kill me and my whole family, and he was trying to think of a way to do it.” In the end, she was granted protection against domestic violence from Ralf and granted possession of the house. Almost immediately, Ralf and Eleanor were ordered to move out of the house, after which the former reportedly went to a local bar, where he saw ‘The Jerry Springer Show’ episode on TV. In a state of anger, he returned to Nancy’s home and strangled her to death. In July 2000, he and Eleanor decided to surrender themselves after they were listed as suspects. While Eleanor was released on $25,000 bail, Ralf was held without bail.
Ralf Panitz is Currently Incarcerated at a Florida Prison Facility
In March 2002, Ralf Panitz’s murder trial got underway. Over the course of ten days, the prosecution presented a string of evidence against the defendant. They told the jury that Ralf was enraged by being ordered out of Nancy’s house and when he watched the episode at a local bar, he snapped and committed the gruesome crime. On the other hand, the defense argued that Nancy had died from a heart attack during a heated fight with someone else.

In the end, after deliberating for 18 hours in the span of two days, the jury convicted Ralf of second-degree murder on March 26, 2002. He was also found guilty of violating a domestic violence order. A couple of months later, in May 2002, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Instead of attending his sentencing hearing, Ralf watched it from another room at the Sarasota County Judicial Center. As of today, the 66-year-old convicted killer is serving his sentence at Marion Correctional Institution in Ocala, Florida.
