In ‘Nando Between Two Worlds,’ the narrative continues the story of the titular character past the fifth and final season of ‘Sintonia.’ Nando, a crime boss who has climbed up the leadership ladder of a drug cartel, pays the price for his success through his separation from his family. However, years after faking his death and taking on the identity of feared drug trafficker ND, the gangster ends up in a dangerous rivalry with a Serbian gang.
This puts his wife, Scheyla, and his kids, Bruna and Enzo, in danger back home in Brazil. As a result, when his teenage daughter goes missing, the father has no choice but to return home despite the mounting danger. Once home, he realizes, his own choices aren’t the only dark cloud looming over the family. Scheyla’s mother, Laura, has been experiencing some medical issues that threaten to spell out her doom. Grandma Laura Dies Shortly After Having a Stroke
In Nando’s absence, Scheyal is forced to take on the role of a single parent in the lives of her children. In this challenging endeavor, her mother, Laura, proves to be a great help as a caretaker and a role model for her grandchildren. Of the two kids, teenager Bruna sports a special connection with her grandmother, consistently confiding in her and looking to her for advice. Still, the two disagree in their opinions on the family’s missing patriarch. After being forced to grow up without a father, Bruna has developed a tense relationship with Nando. She feels abandoned by her father, something that is only made worse by his fake death in the city.
However, regardless of his shortcomings, Laura believes that the father deserves a chance at redemption from his daughter. The fact that the older woman experiences a stroke and gets admitted into a hospital shortly after this disagreement adds a tense friction to the situation. Fortunately, she manages to recover. This time around, she has a similar conversation about family and fatherhood with Nando. The two have known each other for a long time, even outside of the latter’s marriage to Laura’s daughter. While she is proud of Nando for building a good life for himself regardless of his legally dubious ways, she also believes that it’s time for him to hang up his hat.
Laura believes that if Nando doesn’t make a change soon, he could lose his family to the demanding danger of his professional life. Tragically, she passed away a few days after this conversation. Although the reason for her death is never specified, it is likely related to her dwindling health. Even in the aftermath of her passing, Laura continues to influence and impact Nando’s life in meaningful ways. At her funeral, the crime boss is unable to attend the public service with his family due to the need for privacy and secrecy. This makes moments become a blatant depiction of how his work is keeping him away from his family during the important moments in life. Ultimately, this helps him make his decision about staying with the cartel or returning home to his family.
