The filming of NBC’s medical drama series ‘St. Denis Medical’ is set to commence in Los Angeles, California, this month. Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin wrote the show, with Ruben Fleischer on board as the director. Wendi McLendon-Covey headlines the cast of the project with David Alan Grier on board as well. Also starring are Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, and Mekki Leeper.
Set in an underfunded and understaffed hospital named St. Denis Medical in Oregon, this single-camera, mockumentary-style workplace comedy follows the dedicated efforts of doctors and nurses in the establishment as they strive to provide quality care to patients while trying their best to maintain their sanity. McLendon-Covey’s Joyce is the executive director of the establishment and a former oncological surgeon, who has big dreams for the future of the place — dreams that are not currently being realized.
McLendon-Covey most recently played Vicky White in the TV movie ‘Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story,’ which revolves around Vicky and Casey White’s escape from Lauderdale County Jail and the ensuing chase. She also starred in ‘Sick Girl,’ alongside Nina Dobrev, as Carol Pepper. The actress is known for portraying Beverly Goldberg in ‘The Goldbergs’ and Clementine Johnson in ‘Reno 911!’
Grier recently starred as Roger in ‘The American Society of Magical Negroes.’ His recent credits also include Santa Claus in ‘Candy Cane Lane’ and Reverend Avery in Blitz Bazawule’s ‘The Color Purple.’
Tolman appeared in projects such as ‘Shining Vale’ and ‘Gaslit.’ Lawson’s recent works include ‘True Spirit,’ ‘Blaze,’ and ‘Mortal Kombat.’ Kim’s latest appearance is in ‘Fire Island’ and the TV series ‘The Rookie: Feds.’ Leeper portrayed Noah Price in ‘Jury Duty’ and Eric in ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls.’
Justin Spitzer is known for creating NBC shows such as ‘Superstore’ and ‘American Auto.’ Eric Ledgin served as a producer of the former and an executive producer and co-writer of the latter. ‘Superstore’ offers a comedic glimpse into the lives of employees working at a large retail store. ‘American Auto’ delves into the struggles of executives at a prominent automotive company based in Detroit as they grapple with redefining the establishment’s identity in an evolving industry landscape.
Los Angeles, the main location of the series, previously hosted the shooting of Paramount+’s ‘The Thundermans Return’ and Netflix’s ‘Griselda.’
