Neveah Brown and Lupita Rhodes are Fictional Singers With No Ties to Reality
Neveah Brown and Lupita Rhodes in ‘Trapped in the Spotlight’ are fictional characters conceived by Derick Ackerley, Jag Gill, Alberto Halfeld, and Rene Rodriguez-Lopez. In the movie, they are depicted as flourishing singers who have captured the public eye as part of a duet group known as Luscious. However, some friction in their personal bond begins to chafe this partnership. The problem mainly stems from Neveah, who falls prey to the dark side of fame and indulges in her desires without remaining focused on her career. As such, Lupita constantly gets on her case and tries to bring her back to reality. It becomes a constant point of contention between the two and eventually leads to their band breaking up in a humiliating fashion for Neveah.
Fifteen years after the end of their partnership, Neveah and Lupita stop talking to each other and embrace different lives. The latter takes on a more domestic existence, while the former is hell-bent on regaining her lost fame. While struggling financially, Neveah tries out numerous auditions for record labels, hoping to make an impression. However, they all end up rejecting her. She is humiliated even further when she is kicked out of a company’s premises even before the audition takes place. With her dreams close to failure, she finds a break when the same record company calls her back for an audition retry. Unbeknownst to her, it is a ploy organized by Izaak to kidnap her. Neveah wakes up later to find out that she is trapped in a music studio with Lupita.
While stuck as hostages together, the two singers begin to address the reasons behind their relationship breaking down in the past. Over time, they begin to rekindle their former sisterhood while combining their efforts. In some ways, being made to live through a harrowing ordeal forces them to face their inadequacies and find new ways of moving forward together. As such, the characters fit a specific purpose within the narrative and are built to live up to the themes of resilience and perseverance. They may have some relatable factors that make them akin to real-life people, such as their insecurities and vulnerabilities. However, for the most part, they are fictional characters drawn entirely from the imagination of the film’s writers.
