With Nick McCall having been a professional tour guide in his home state of Washington, D.C., for nearly two decades, he has truly earned his moniker of “Tour God.” After all, apart from being deeply informative, his tours are also humorous because he ensures they are spruced up with some good tidbits and a deadpan delivery, making the experience unlike any other. However, over the past few years, he has been so dedicated to his job and providing for his family – his wife Vivian and their five children – that he kind of lost himself along the way. That’s why his loved ones asked the Fab Five for some help in Netflix’s ‘Queer Eye’ season 10, in the hopes that he can realize that he is enough as himself.
Nick McCall’s Dedication to His Family and His Work is Deeply Commendable
Raised in a single-parent household with a mother who often worked 2 or 3 jobs just to keep food on the table, Nicholas “Nick” McCall realized early on that showing up matters. He never had a father or a father figure to help guide him, but he did have a dedicated mother who showed she cared in the little things, even if she couldn’t make it to everything he was doing. Unfortunately, though, he fell into trouble during his early adult years and was even caught, which he asserts ended up being the wake-up call he needed to turn over a new leaf for the better. Therefore, he became a commercial driver, shortly after which he found a mentor in an encouraging, experienced tour guide.

Nick’s mentor was the one who pushed him to try out the path for himself upon discovering that he had always had a passion for the rich history and the powerful stories behind his home state. He had already been exposed to the industry and its styles during his time as a driver, so he knew he had to figure out his own unique selling point, which led him to mix history with his sense of humor. It was only then that he kick-started his career as a tour guide around the late 2000s, meaning he has been actively helping people from across the globe experience the area for nearly 18 years.
Nick had no idea he would soon meet the love of his life in Vivian Nicole, a single mother of 4 as well as an entrepreneur, which led him to step up in more ways than one. He accepted her children as their own, willingly took up the responsibility of connecting and providing for them, and ensured the dynamics didn’t waver even when the couple welcomed their own child into the world. However, because he never had a father figure of his own, he didn’t know how to show up for them except by ensuring they never had to struggle, so he worked double shifts 7 days a week. He knew the kids loved him, but he forgot it was the little things that mattered, and that’s what the Fab Five helped him see.

Nick McCall Has Gradually Found the Balance to Lead a Truly Fulfilling Life
Since there is no rulebook for parenting or relationships, all Nick had to see was that the way he was navigating his life wasn’t serving anyone on an emotional level. He was doing a great job of providing for and being there for his wife and kids whenever they needed him, but he was so devoted to one aspect that he wasn’t making any memories with them. The moment he realized this, with the help of the fellow parents in the Fab Five, he understood he needed to make changes, prioritize his loved ones in tangible ways, and pursue his own dreams for more time at home, which he has since been able to do.
According to Nick, in a January 2026 interview with Netflix’s Tudum, he has made some significant changes in his lifestyle over the past year, which have improved all his relationships. In fact, he has even gone sober to be more present with his family when he is at home and ensures not to raise his voice at his young ones, even when it is time for them to do chores. “Yelling doesn’t do nothing but raise blood pressure,” he quipped before adding that sobriety has enabled him to “feel great, think better, and have been having a more intimate relationship with Vivian.” As for the makeover of the family home in Arlington, Virginia, Nick is admittedly so in awe of it to this day that he has become rather “militant” about keeping it clutter-free.
It is definitely more lived-in now, even with his eldest now in college, but he is making sure it continues to have an essence that allows him, his wife, and their kids to keep growing. Coming to his business, the legendary tour guide is hopeful about launching an “adults-only” version of his tour this year, which he could potentially name the Hysterical History Tour. “I don’t think it’s a better time to launch than 2026, the 250th anniversary of America.” Until then, he remains under the banner of USA Guided Tours. Whenever he is not working or spending quality time with family, he is expanding his knowledge and perspective on the world through avid reading.
