Night Shift For Cuties Plot Synopsis

Muti is a young girl who hails from a modest family in Indonesia. Though her younger brother, Sigit, and her mother, Endah, love her, she feels the pressure of being the only earning member. Jenar is an overweight girl who has body-image issues and is constantly pressured by her family to get married. Muti and Jenar are dedicated fans of the K-pop girl band Purple Tea, especially because of its Indonesian lead singer, Boki. The two fans cross paths when Muti gets employment as a cashier at a Korean-themed minimart owned by Stanley, where Jenar also serves as a cashier. The two girls soon form a close bond because of their shared love for Purple Tea and Boki. One of their main goals is to travel to Korea and watch a Purple Tea concert, to fulfill their obligations as “Cuties,” a collective term used to refer to the fans of the band.
To facilitate this dream, Jenar convinces Muti to sign up for the “Cutie-Verse,” a fandom app that gives out Purple Tea fan meet tickets to lucky winners. Muti struggles with her childhood memories of her dead father, Aji. To earn money to go to Korea, Jenar and Muti team up to swindle cash from the minimart customers by overcharging them and keeping the difference. Jenar catches the attention of a young water deliveryman named Indra. Muti is angry when her mother introduces her to Surya, who is Endah’s new romantic partner. The lives of Muti and Jenar change when Muti gets tickets to the Purple Tea fan meet event and the concert in Korea, and Jenar doesn’t. Jenar communicates with a Seoul-based woman named Chai, who runs a “ticket war” for the upcoming Purple Tea concert. Muti and Jenar work to gather enough funds for travel, tickets, and a stay in Seoul.

Jenar grows distant from Muti when the latter fails to show up for the online ticket war, costing Jenar a concert ticket. Just before Muti has the chance to purchase a ticket, Indra intervenes. He manages to secure a concert ticket for Jenar and impresses her. Later, a customer finds out that Muti is engaging in fraud and fails to notice Jenar. Soon, Stanley fires Muti, and Jenar keeps her job. It is revealed that Indra has a fascination for overweight girls, which is why he finds Jenar attractive. Since Jenar looks a lot like Boki and has a similar body structure, Indra is also obsessed with Boki. Muti finds out that her father, Aji, is still alive and has stayed away from her because he started a family with another woman after betraying Endah. Jenar still doesn’t know about Indra’s obsession and agrees to wed him after he visits her house and proposes.
Muti apologizes to Jenar for being absent during the ticket war and temporarily moves in with her after Endah plans to marry Surya. Muti has suspicions about Indra because she finds out that he only follows overweight girls online. Because of Jenar’s decision to marry Indra, Muti is angry at her and moves back home. It is revealed that Indra and Boki knew each other in childhood and were close to each other. However, Boki’s fame leads to a distance between the two. In the present, Boki posts an emotional video about missing someone and posts a photo of her holding the hand of someone who has a birthmark on their thigh. Due to the other band members’ refusal to let her pick her own songs for the concert, Boki quits Purple Tea. Jenar finds out that the one with the birthmark is Indra and learns of his past with Boki.

It is revealed that Chai used to be a band member of Purple Tea seven years ago and a friend of Boki. Chai was let go due to her attitude, is now obsessed with Purple Tea, and hates Boki for quitting. Chai pretends to care about Boki when the latter visits her. Chai then mixes sedatives in Boki’s coffee and locks her up in the bathroom. Muti wins a flight ticket and travels to Seoul a day before the fan meet and concert. Jenar also flies to Seoul separately, and Boki looks to escape.
Night Shift For Cuties Ending: What Happens at the Purple Tea Fan Meet Event? How Do Jenar and Muti Escape?

Jenar and Muti land in Seoul separately, while Boki is still stuck in Chai’s bathroom. At the fan meet venue, Jenar runs into Chai, who tells her that she can help her meet the Purple Tea band members. Jenar recognizes Chai because the latter was in charge of the ticket war. Chai asks Jenar to wear a specific t-shirt for the fan meet the following day. Jenar spots Muti near her hotel, but chooses not to approach her. Because of the emotional video about Indra that Boki posted earlier, both Jenar and Muti are also concerned about Boki’s mental health. The Purple Tea members worry about Boki and believe that she has actually quit the band for good. Despite repeated requests from Boki, Chai refuses to let her go.
The next day, Muti gets into the event after showing her valid ticket and is excited to meet her idols, especially Boki, who has now consumed her mind. Meanwhile, Chai meets Jenar and takes her backstage. As per Chai’s instructions, Jenar puts on a mask and wears the t-shirt Chai gave her, which resembles the one the Purple Tea members are scheduled to wear. In front of the fan meet stage, hundreds of obsessive fans, including Muti, wait for the arrival of Purple Tea, especially Boki. However, no one has a clue about Boki’s current predicament. When the other Purple Tea members arrive backstage, they are shocked to see Jenar instead of Boki. Chai shows up backstage and tells the band members and the band manager, Eun, that Jenar can pretend to be Boki on stage. Eun doesn’t take kindly to this plan and calls security.

Realizing that her plan isn’t working, a worried Chai grabs a confused Jenar and runs away. Security continues to chase Jenar. Meanwhile, fans eagerly await meeting Purple Tea. When the band members take the stage, the obsessed fans are excited but soon notice that Boki is missing. This enrages the crowd, which becomes restless. When running away from security, Jenar accidentally steps onto the stage. The fans take a moment to observe her, but end up assuming that she is indeed Boki. Jenar is overcome by anxiety as she is just a helpless spectator to all this chaos around her. The fans grow more excited and run towards Jenar, surrounding her. Muti, who is part of the crowd, immediately recognizes that Jenar is in danger. Following this, Muti helps Jenar escape from the crowd and run towards a quieter area.
As Jenar hopes to leave the building, Muti crosses paths with someone unexpected. Boki manages to escape after breaking the bathroom door and shows up at the fan meet venue. Boki runs into Muti, who is overwhelmed to see her favorite singer. Muti grabs hold of Boki and starts to express her admiration. During this process, Muti grows increasingly desperate to showcase her love for the singer. Disturbed by this behavior, Boki calls security and orders them to take Muti away.

Some fans notice this and also record Muti being taken away. Security locks up both Muti and Jenar for their actions, and the two friends finally get the time to speak to each other. The video of Jenar mistaken for Boki goes viral, and so does the one where Muti is dragged away by security. Later, Muti and Jenar share their version of events with the security personnel, who also happen to be fans of Purple Tea. Overcome by a sense of empathy, the security personnel let Muti and Jenar walk out of the building.
Do Muti and Jenar Go to the Concert? Why?
After coming out of the building, Muti and Jenar realize that it is almost time for the concert, which is scheduled to take place at a different venue. Despite everything that happened, the two of them are still excited to watch Purple Tea perform. The two fans run towards the stadium where the concert is already underway. They show their concert tickets to the security, but only Muti’s ticket turns out to be real. It is revealed that the ticket Jenar received was fake and part of a ticketing scam. With only Muti allowed to go in, the situation gets complicated. Initially, Muti decides to go to the concert without Jenar, but soon realizes that this is unfair. Seeing how dejected Jenar is, Muti decides not to walk in. She then tells Jenar that she should go to the concert instead, as she made everything possible in the first place.

Since both of them traveled so far to experience this, they realize that they cannot watch the concert without each other. Muti sells the valid ticket to another fan and then walks away with Jenar. Jenar and Muti understand that their connection is more important than the momentary thrill of a concert. As the music blasts out of the speakers at the stadium, Muti and Jenar hum the songs and still have a good time. Later, they sit by the side of a lake near the stadium and think about their realities. The two are just happy to be in each other’s company and choose to be happy after everything they experienced in Seoul.
Does Muti Forgive and Accept Her Family? Why?
During her visit to Seoul, Muti remains angry with her family after her mother, Endah, expresses the desire to marry Surya. Muti also faces deep trauma because her father, Aji, left the family during her childhood in pursuit of another woman. These issues make it difficult for Muti to make sense of everything unfolding in her family life. The situation changes in Seoul when she watches a video sent by her brother, Sigit. The video features Sigit and Endah, who make an appeal to the President of South Korea after learning that Muti has been held by the security personnel at the fan meet venue. Surya shoots this video and helps Sigit and Endah do their bit to help Muti. Despite Muti being freed by the security personnel, Sigit and Endah remain oblivious.

In the video, the mother and son talk about Muti being a good person and that she would never harm anyone. They also express their love for Muti through the video. Watching this makes Muti extremely emotional, and she realizes that her family genuinely cares about her. After flying back to Indonesia, Muti goes to her house and lovingly greets Endah and Sigit. Muti also asks Endah to invite Surya, signifying that she is ready to accept her mother’s relationship with him. Because of how her father abandoned her, Muti realizes that she must hold on to the love and affection of her mother and brother.
Do Jenar and Indra Get Back Together? Will Boki and Indra Reunite?
When she is detained by security and narrates the story of how she got there, Jenar comes to terms with the complexities of her relationship with Indra. Although he has hidden the truth from her, she still loves him for making her feel special. Later, by the lake, Muti and Jenar talk about Indra. During this conversation, Muti tells Jenar that Indra proposed to her, despite knowing that she can never truly replace Boki. Jenar assumes that she can help Indra get over Boki and make him happy. Although this is a moment of deep thought, the situation changes when Jenar flies back to Indonesia. Jenar meets Indra and tells him that she understands his point of view about Boki. But Jenar also says that she doesn’t want to get married as she is not ready and is not sure if Indra will ever be able to get over Boki.

Jenar and Indra agree to start over as friends and hope to get to know each other better. A few months later, Indra is still thinking about Boki. While he is delivering water to the minimart, he is shocked to see Boki stepping out of a taxi. Boki flies all the way to Indonesia to reunite with her childhood sweetheart. Seeing her, Indra is overwhelmingly happy. It is likely that the two will get together after understanding how much they mean to each other.
Do Muti and Jenar Remain Friends? Why?
Muti and Jenar share moments of passion, sadness, joy, and trouble. They develop a deep understanding of each other through their wild experiences, especially during their time in Seoul. Jenar promises to always be there for Muti, whenever she feels alone. After choosing not to attend the concert, Muti also proves how much she cares about Jenar. The two of them travel back to Indonesia with a renewed sense of purpose. Despite everything that they experienced in Seoul, they still continue to be passionate about Purple Tea and its music.

Months later, Muti picks up Jenar from the minimart, and the two ride together, listening to music and having fun. They come across various challenges that test the foundations of their friendship, but manage to overcome every hurdle. The bond between the two is at the heart of the story and is what makes it special. Muti and Jenar will presumably continue to stay friends for a long time and also share moments of happiness with each other.
